According to tribal stories told throughout the years, the differences between the Prairie and Citizen Band members were evident simply by the shoes they wore.

The first group wore moccasins and the latter wore shoes into the local towns. A simple story such as this underscored the many differences, but basically the Citizen Band wanted to be like the whites, one way or the other, while the Prairie Band wanted to remain Indian at all costs.
