Band Member Lists

Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation

The most important membership list of the Prairie Band was developed between 1891 and 1897 by Henry J. Aten, allotting agent. It was the list of band members who were allotted land under the Dawes Act of 1887. This lengthy list was incorporated into an essay, "Prairie Band of Pottawatomie Indians" by William Elsey Connelley which was published by the Kansas State Historical Society in 1918. You may read the article in its entirety on this website or link directly to the membership list.

Citizen Potawatomi Nation

These are the surnames of the forty families from whom the Citizen Potawatomi descends. These families moved from Kansas down to Oklahoma when the allotments were given out. They settled on the agency lands and many of their descendants can be found in and around Pottawatomie County, OK. There are also members of these families who, although considered Citizen Potawatomi, chose to remain in Kansas and to let their lands lie fallow, or to sell them or have them farmed by others in the family.

Thanks to the Tribal Rolls Office of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation for their assistance in making this list available.
