The surname "FULLER" is an English occupational (craft or
trade) name derived from methods of processing woolen cloth
("fulling"), wherein both shrinkage and thickening is achieved by
moistening, heating, and pressing the woven material. A person
experienced in the process became known as a "fuller."
Even the craft was mentioned in the Bible. "White as no
fuller could make."
[The FULLERs have a long history in the U.S.A. dating back
to service in the Revolutionary War 1776 for sure. We are all
many "rolling stones" seldom staying in one location for more
than a generation or two. Every generation or so the FULLERs
have moved a few hundred miles to newer lands in the west and
halted for a while in Michigan. Dwight Parken]

Daniel B. FULLER
Daniel FULLER was baptized May 15, 1774 at Lynn, Essex
County, MA.
According to the 1850 & 1860 Federal Census for Wayne
County, Michigan, Daniel was born in Masschusetts in 1782, but
it is known that Daniel claimed to be 8 years younger than he
actually was, so Daniel FULLER was born in 1774. Daniel FULLER
(age 92) died Monday, September 12/17, 1866 at Livonia, Wayne
County, Michigan, so Daniel FULLER was born in 1774.
married (1) Mary Brown April 5, 1801 (CR5)
married (2) Hannah Rich December 13, 1835?
Daniel FULLER married (3) Susannah (Anna) Ames in 1806-1807.
Daniel and Susannah (Ames) FULLER had a large family. By
November 1807 the first of their 13 children had been born in New
York. Several of these children attended school at Sackets
Harbor, Haunsfield Township, Jefferson County, New York.
Daniel FULLER was very harsh and strict. The old Puritan
religion (church affiliation - Quaker?) was adhered to. He had a
large black snake whip, and if the boys laughed or played on
Sunday, they received a whipping with it.
During the War of 1812, Daniel FULLER was a Private in a
Company of Rangers under Captain David Erving, Franklin County,
New York. In 1858 Daniel FULLER made application to the State of
New York for payment due him for service rendered in that war.
His claim was that he had furnished, at his own expense, the
following items: One hat, $4; one ordinary coat, $10; one vest,
$3; one pair pantaloons, $5; one overcoat, $12; two pairs of
stockings, $1; one blanket, $1.50; one knapsack, $1; one
canteen, 50¢; two shirts, $2; one pair of Suwarrow boots, $5;
one neckerchief, $1.
Daniel and Susannah resided in Minden [ca. 1807-1820]
(Montgomery County - formed from Canajoharie County), Sackets
Harbor [ca. 1820-1827] (Haunsfield Township, Jefferson County),
and Victor [ca. 1827-1831 or 1832] (Ontario County), New York.
Daniel FULLER and his family moved to the woods of Wayne
County, Michigan Territory from Ontario County, New York in 1831
or 1832 when Detroit, Michigan was just a small trading post.
[They came to Michigan at a date so early in the history of
Michigan that Detroit, now the principal city of this powerful
commonwealth, contained only three buildings. The surrounding
country was all a wilderness, overgrown with tangled shrubbery
and lofty forest trees.] Here he was a farmer, and his family
spread across the state of Michigan.
Before moving to Livonia Township, Daniel had been a farmer
in Greenfield Township. Greenfield Township was located in the
northern section of Wayne County and was set off from Springwells
Township 31 March 1833. The name Greenfield was descriptive of
the area as some of the best farmland in the country lay within
its boundries.
Daniel FULLER purchased from Barzillar & w/Matilda FULLER of
Kent County, Michigan 40 acres Sec 10 Detroit, Wayne County, MI
2/5/1840.
[Ref. "Wayne County, Michigan Land Transfers," Vol. 15. page 72]
Daniel and Susannah FULLER bought a farm in section 22 of
Livonia Township on 15 March 1856 from George Pennell and his
wife, Eveline, of Livonia Township. The transaction was
witnessed by Nathaniel Prumable and Alexander Blue and registered
by N.R. Nowland.
Susannah (Ames) FULLER (age 70) died Sunday, October 30,
1859 at Livonia, Wayne County, Michigan. She is buried in Old
Livonia Cemetery on Farmington Road, Livonia, Wayne County,
Michigan. Her gravemarker reads: Susannah FULLER, b. 1789; d.
Oct. 30, 1859.
Shortly after which George M. FULLER took his family and
moved back to Detroit, Michigan to comfort his father, Daniel
FULLER. George M. FULLER hadn't been there long (a year or so)
until...
Daniel FULLER (age 86) [altho he admitted to only 78 of
those years at the time] married Mary Ann Gill (age 61) (b. 1797
in England; widow of a blacksmith) in June 1860. They were
married in Livonia Township by a Justice of the Peace, L.A.
Vanakin. Witnesses to the event were Dennis McKinney and D.F.
Norton of Nankin.

Grand River in Grand Rapids, MI until spring. [Ref. Ila M.
Huffman]
February 1843 George M. FULLER moved to Grand Rapids,
Michigan. At that season of the year the country was covered
with snow and it was impossible to secure employment of any kind.
He had five shillings in money and also had the promise from his
brother, who lived near Grand Rapids, that he would give him work
to do in the spring; meanwhile he was given the privilege of
remaining with the brother and settling for his board afterward.
In the spring of 1843 Mr. FULLER began the chopping of
timber, and succeeded in clearing one hundred acres in eighteen
months. He has devoted his attention to farming and lumbering.
George M. FULLER married 1/w Emily SMITH August 1845 in Kent
County, Michigan.
They cleared a farm there.

The children of George and Emily (Smith) FULLER, numbering
6, were born in Michigan. February 1854 George FULLER and some
of his brothers and sisters left the Detroit community and moved
to Ashland Township, Newaygo County, Michigan near Newaygo and
Grand Rapids, Michigan (cleared a farm there).

The first annual meeting of the Township of Ashland was held
on April 2, 1855 at the home of Sullivan Armstrong near Ashland
Center. There were only a handful of voters. George FULLER was
the first treasurer ever elected in Ashland Township, Newaygo
County.
[ref. "Grant Area Yesterday Today"]
1858-9 George FULLER was a Supervisor of Ashland Township,
Newaygo County.
Shortly after Susanna (Ames) FULLER died in 1859, George M.
FULLER took his family and moved back to Detroit, Michigan to
comfort his father, Daniel FULLER. George M. FULLER hadn't been
there long (a year or so) until... Daniel FULLER (age 86) married
Mary Ann Gill (the widow of a blacksmith) in 1860. So George M.
FULLER journeyed back to his former home near Newaygo.
August 12, 1862 George M. FULLER enlisted (volunteer) as a
private in the 21st Michigan Infantry (Union Army). George M.
FULLER was drilled a few months then moved close to the front
lines. During the period of his active service he participated
in a number of skirmishes, in all of which he bore his part with
the gallantry and courage of a true patriot.
One night, when it was raining terrible, the whole company
was ordered to their trenches. George M. FULLER jumped into the
trench. Someone had left a spade with a splintered handle
sticking up. This pierced his thigh entering the leg just above
the knee and going upward into the muscle several inches.
Soon after this happened he was sent home on furlough.
He returned disabled after only three months of service.
He received his discharge papers, a surgeons certificate of
disability, in January 1863. They lived in Battle Creek,
Michigan then.
In 1863 George M. FULLER was the Supervisor of Ashland
Township, Newaygo County
[My (Nellie FULLER's) grandmother, Emily (Smith) FULLER,
being raised in a country where schools were not for girls and
were not plentiful for boys either, most of her education came
from the "school of hard knocks," Pa (George Edward FULLER) said.
She was really a manager -- outlined the duties around the house
-- knew how to budget the produce sold so that each one was well
provided for.
Pa (George Edward FULLER) said when (1870) he was a good-
sized boy, probably 14 years, a while before Thanksgiving she
would help Grandpa (George M. FULLER) and Pa get their produce
assembled for market -- several dressed geese, some chickens,
eggs, a lot of butter, some apples, maybe half or whole hog all
cut up nicely. These were put in a nice clean box in a wagon --
maybe in the wagon there would be a few sheep or lamb pelts also.
Then early some morning Pa and Grandma would drive into Grand
Rapids or some other good-sized town and they would dispose of
their produce by peddling or to merchants. Grandma did a
wonderful job of selling at a good price but it embarrassed Pa a
lot to see his mother talking to men about what these goods
should bring. He would say "Why Ma you don't see other women
talking to men the way you do." After everything was sold they
would buy a few gallons of kerosene for the lamps, some of that
delicious new-style white refined cane sugar, some salt, and some
spices plus a few products for making dyes. Grandma always
carded and dyed her own wool yarn for knitting. She always grew
a nice garden, flowers and window plants. Then they bought some
of that heavy jeans cloth for the men's pants and calicos and
muslins and thread and a bolt of red, or dark blue wool flannel
for the underwear. So, now the marketing would be done for maybe
several months and Grandma had lots if sewing to do.]
In 1879 George M. FULLER was the Supervisor of Ashland
Township, Newaygo County
In 1880 George M. FULLER was nominated by the Democrats for
the Representative of Newaygo County, but he declined the
nomination, and during the same year he cast his ballot with the
Greenback party.
When? Moved to Tallmadge Township, Ottawa County, Michigan
(cleared a farm there).
1884 - In politics Mr. FULLER is an advocate of the People's
party. Socially, George M. FULLER is a member of Champlin Post
No. 29, G. A. R., at Grand Rapids, Tallmadge Grange, and Berlin
Lodge No. 248, F. & A. M. While not a member of any church, he
believes in the immortality of the soul.

"this Beautiful May morning finds us yet on this side of the
grave as well as could be expected and present circumstances and
we hope those few pencil marks may find you all quite well you
know I should like to see you all how much I cant tell because
it is a lonesome time with me now but it is no use rehearsing the
past I must face the future"
"it will be 5 (or 9?) years this month since I moved in

different arrangement made I once was a man and could defend
myself and my children but today I am a mere child and know one
seems to look after me when strength fails it is hard to stem the
tide"
Family Reunion - August 20, 1905
The children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Mr.
George FULLER, Sr., met at his home near Berlin last Sunday to
help celebrate his eighty-fifth birthday anniversary. The
children were George E. FULLER and L.P. FULLER, both of Kansas;
Mrs. Rebecca Betts of Berlin, Mrs. Susan Andrews of Newaygo, Mrs.
Euphemia Linn of Saugatuck, and Mrs. Louana Vogel of Grand

After all were seated at the dinner table Mrs. Euphemia Linn read
a poem composed for the occasion by her husband, the Rev. R.
Linn, after which the father gave a few touching remarks in
response. After dinner Mrs. Louana Vogel took her seat at the
organ, while the guests gathered around and sang a few stanzes of
favorite hymns.

George Edward FULLER
July 28, 1856 George Fuller was born in Ashland, NewaygoCo, MI.
August 12, 1862 George Fuller (age 6) saw his father, George M.
FULLER, volunteer to defend his country leaving his mother, Emily
(SMITH) FULLER, with him and the other children at home.
1872 George Edward FULLER (age 16) started his career as a
lumberman--sometimes as a chopper--sometimes on the rollway--
sometimes hauling logs.
1880 George Edward FULLER (age 21), a laborer, was living with
Eugene Kepler, a lumberman, and 16 other men in Sheridan
Township, Newaygo County, Michigan.
While serving as foreman in the lumber camp on the David SQUIER
farm, he met his future wife, Ida May SQUIER (David SQUIER's
niece), who was a school teacher and was staying at her Uncle's
home.
1882 George Fuller (age 26) he came to Mill Creek Township,
Washington County, KS and purchased an 80 acre farm. He had
followed some neighbors from Michigan, the McCollum brothers. He
stayed with a family named Creighton and was employed by Mr.
James Creighton who lived near the McCollums.
1883 George Fuller returned to Michigan.
November 7, 1883 George Edward FULLER married Ida May Squier at
Muskegon, Michigan.
1883-1884 They resided at Michigan for a short time.
Feb-Mar 1884 George Edward and Ida May (Squier) FULLER and

2S-2R not far from where they lived. This land was prairie --
virgin Blue Stem sod, no improvements, not a fence or anything.
They had to give possession of the McCormick place, so they moved
into a little boarded-up shack. George FULLER, being handy at
carpentry and having had some experience, started a new house on
their new real estate.
February 1911 George Fuller sold the W1/2 of NE1/4 - Sec. 13 -
2S-2R.
1911 They moved to Cherryvale, Montgomery County, KS and lived on
a 200 acre farm one mile north of town (Route 4 on Liberty Street
Road). The five younger children attended school in Cherryvale.

in north La Junta, Otero County, Colorado.
1923 During their residency there, they had a "modern" hen-egg
operation.
1929 George Edward and Ida FULLER moved back to Cherryvale,
Montgomery County, Kansas. The farm near Cherryvale had two
residences, a large two-story frame house and a small tenant
house. When he was no longer able to operate the farm himself,
George and Ida moved to the small house where they lived until
they sold the farm in 1945.
August 1945 George Edward and Ida May (Squier) FULLER moved to
Lawrence, Douglas County, Kansas to live with their two widowed
daughters, Nellie and Alta.
February 26, 1946 George Fuller (age 89) died at Lawrence,
