The following is a copy of the call and the signatures subscribed thereto:
Ivy Creek, March 29th, 1747. Whereas it is agreed or purposed that the
inhabitants of Ivy Creek and the Mt. Plain congregation join together with the
congregation of Rockfish to call, and invite the Revd Mr. Samuel Black, now
residing in the bounds of the Revd John Craig's congregation, to be our
minister and pastor, to administer the ordinances of the Gospel among us all.
We, whose names are herewith prefixed, do promise and oblige to pay yearly and
every year the the several sums affixed to our names for the outward support
and encouragement of the said Mr. Samuel Black during his abode and
continuance among us for the one half of his labors in an administration to
Gospel ordinances to us, in an orderly way according to the rules and practice
of our orthodox reformed Presbyterian church as witness our hands. (Among the
56 members who donated is the name of MATTHEW MULLINS, his donation, 5
shillings, 6 pence. (Albemarle Co. Hist. Soc.)

5 May 1755--Land adjacent to Daniel MAUPIN, John MULLINS and Robert Miller.
This is a plot of 92 acres in Albemarle County lying on the branches of the
Mooremans (sp) River. Surveyed for Matthew MULLINS 5 May 1755 by John Staples,

Sep 1758--Henning's Statutes, Volume VIII, page 203, show that Matthew Mullins
and his two sons, John and William, served with the Virginia Militia during
the French and Indian War.
10 Mar 1763--Albemarle County, Matthew MULLINS sold land to William MAUPIN

1769--Clifton first lived at the foot of Buck's Elbow on a place he bought in
1769 from Matthew MULLINS and afterwards sold to Cornelius MAUPIN. (Source:

1776?--The records of the War Department show that Matthew MULLINS served
three years as a sergeant in the American army during the Revolutionary War
(DAR No. 75 889) in Captain William Croghan's Company of the consolidated 4th,
8th and 12th regiments of Virginia troops commanded by Colonel James WOODS.
When?--The four churches, Lebanon Church, Ivy Creek, Mt. Plain Congregation
and Rockfish, joined together to invite Rev. Sam Black. Among the 56 members
who signed the petition is the name of Matthew MULLINS. Among the members who
donated money is the name of Matthew MULLINS, 5 shillings 6 pence. Source:

1777 Gabriel MULLINS (age 19) joined the Continental Army and served as a
private/minuteman during the Revolutionary War.
During his tenure with the Continental Army, he served at the POW barracks
about four miles west of Charlottesville, Albemarle County, Virignia. There
he guarded interred British and Hessian Prisoners of War (Burgoyne's troops)
who were captured during the Battle of Saratoga in New York.
He served under Capt. Gardner, Col. Lindsay's Regiment of Virginia. He served
under Capt. Hanibler, Col. Taylor's Regiment of Virginia.
1779 They lived in Westmoreland County, Virginia. 1790 They emigrated to
Madison County, Kentucky. 1810 They moved to Pendleton County, Kentucky.
March 1833 Gabriel MULLINS was granted a pension for Revolutionary War
service. 1939 A government marker was placed at his grave by the Daughters of
the American Revolution, Pendleton Chapter.

26 Nov 1872--John Thomas MULLINS married Elizabeth TAYLOR in Boone County,
Kentucky at residence of bride's mother in the presence of John McElroy and
Edward Taylor. The marriage certificate was signed by L. Johnson - Baptist
minister.
1880--They were still living in Kentucky.
1891--The family came to Ohio Township, Morris County, Kansas. They settled on
a farm three miles east and one mile north of Dwight, Kansas near where the
Jones Station on the Rock Island Railroad was located. The northeast corner
of this quarter (NE 1/4 of Section 17) is two miles south of Moss Springs
Cemetery, Liberty Township, Geary County, Kansas. [Liberty Township organized
14 Apr 1875; the southeast township of Geary (Davis) County; formerly part of
Jackson Township; 1880 population by Federal Census was 665]
1891--They went into partnership with a Mr. Alexander and engaged in farming.
This partnership lasted seven years.
23 Sep 1892--The Alta Vista Modern Woodmen of America camp was organized.
14 Mar 1893 (date of certificate)--John Thomas MULLINS (age: 44 years, 5
months, 4 days; occupation: farmer) was a member of the Modern Woodmen of
America camp (#1768) of Alta Vista, Kansas.
1896--In the Alta Vista, KS new items, "Joseph CUNNINGHAM of Weston, Geary
County has gone to work for J. T. MULLINS of Dwight." [Ref. Council Grove
Republican April 10, 1896 pg. 9]
1898--John Thomas MULLINS had illness/disease of pneumonia in his personal
history, and had habits of liquor and tobacco.
23 Sep 1898--John Thomas MULLINS aged 49 years, 11 months, 13 days died at
Alta Vista, Kansas from Typhoid fever.
23 Sep 1898--John Thomas MULLINS had been a member of the Modern Woodmen of
America camp (#1768) of Alta Vista, Kansas for 5 years, 6 months, 9 days. He
is the first member that has been lost by death.
25 Sep 1898--Rev. Signor, of the Christian Church, conducted the religious
services. The Modern Woodmen of America camp attended to the funeral
services, but the hour being late and the crowd so large, over half of the
ceremony was omitted. Over 157 teams were in the procession. John T. MULLINS
was buried at 4:00 p.m. in the Moss Springs Cemetery, Liberty Township, Geary
County, Kansas.

29 Oct 1846--Elizabeth TAYLOR was born in Ireland.
1852--Elizabeth Taylor was seven years old when they came to America and
settled near Richwood, Boone County, Kentucky.
1852/1872--She became a member of the Baptist Church before marriage.
1898--Shortly after the death of John Thomas MULLINS, Elizabeth MULLINS and
Mr. Alexander held a sale to dissolve the partnership.
1898/1908--Elizabeth MULLINS then purchased the farm three miles east and a
quarter mile north of Dwight, Kansas (SE 1/4 of Section 17 T-14-S range 7-8
East) and moved there with her family.
1900--Elizabeth MULLINS was a widow, a mother of five (all living).
11 May 1908--Elizabeth (Taylor) MULLINS aged 62 years, 6 months, 12 days died
at her home near Dwight, Kansas Monday afternoon from consumption.
14 May 1908--A large procession followed her body from the house to Moss
Springs Methodist-Episcopal Church (Liberty Township, Geary County,
Kansas--northeast of Dwight, Kansas) where the funeral service was held. The
services was conducted by Rev. H. A. M. Holshouser, pastor of the Presbyterian
Church at Dwight. Elizabeth (Taylor) MULLINS was buried in the Moss Springs
Cemetery (Liberty Township, Geary County, Kansas) adjoining the M.E. Church.
