Hamburg - Aug. 13, 1908
The Honorable Senates Commission for the Interior and Foreign Affairs.
I have the honor to inform you, that in following up of my letter from 22
July 1908, the fugitive in Wheeling (because of embezzlement) pursuited
Charles F. Jaster is identical with the former train ticket collector Karl
Friedrich Haster, born on the 18 Dec. 1873 in Dramburg. Jaster was until
the 27 April 1894 registered by his parents living at Bellealliance Street
51, and checked out for New York on 3 Jan. 1895. His mother has died in the
meantime. His father, the retired Wilhelm Jaster and his sister Luise Jaster
are living here at Koing Street 36. They both acknowledged that a photograph
shown to them, which was taken 14 years ago in Hamburg, was their son and
brother. They further testified that the fugitive being sought has left
Wheeling some time ago and told them in a letter that he was going to
Bridgeport. On 4 Jan. 1908 he wrote a letter from Fort Worth in Texas and
told them that he was there drilling for oil for Standard Oil Co. Since
then they have not heard from him and do not know his present stay. They
are in possession of a newer photograph of the "being sought" which supposedly
was taken approximately 4 years ago in Wheeling. This photograph was presented
by them and a copy was made here. A photo print of it with appropriate
information has been sent to the pursuing authority in Wheeling. It is further
noticed that according to his relatives living her the pursuited has acquired
the American Citizenship. As far as the continued investigation is concerned,
if additional information is obtained it will be revealed.
The Senator and Police Chief
