sisters.

Clermont County, Ohio to Morris County, Kansas where they took up
a homestead near Dwight. George BECKLEHIMER accompanied them on
this trip.
1870/1871--They stayed in Topeka, Kansas that winter. Martin's
two brothers, John and George had gone ahead and taken up two dry
land homesteads. Martin SWARTZ took the adjoining homestead
which had a good spring of water.
1871--The SWARTZ brothers (John and George) left Topeka by the
Santa Fe [Railroad] to file claims in the spring of 1871. They
returned to Topeka by train, and the next day started back for
Morris County. They took claims in Section 18, Ohio Township,
southeast of what is now Dwight, Kansas.
They became a part of the Slough Creek Community, where they
established a church, school and cemetery, along with the Chinns,
Amsburys, Meyers and other families.

"Slough Creek or The Swartz Cemetery."
6 Jul 1898--Jane (LILLICH) SWARTZ died at Dwight, Kansas. She
was buried at Dwight, Kansas.

renters, both relatives and others until he sold the homestead
and went west to live.

Christine (SWARTZ) KERNS, and his niece, Emma KERNS, in Tacoma,
Washington. Then he moved to Oregon City, Oregon where he made
his home for 10 years with his daughter, Annie and Fred CHINN.
