Wichitan, 104, Dies Saturday
Lewellen Hobson, Widow of Doctor

Mrs. Lewellen McConnaughey Hobson, 104-year-old Wichita pioneer, died
at her home at 1315 S. Emporia Saturday afternoon.

She was born April 17, 1853, in Quincy, Ohio.  Mrs. Hobson was the
widow of a pioneer Kansas doctor and newspaper man, Dr. Mark [Marcus
Fremont] Hobson [b. June 9, 1853, Henry Co., IN., son of William Hobson
and Malinda Millikan].  He died in Wichita in 1939 [December 16].

Mrs. Hobson came to Wichita with her husband in 1878.  Later they moved
to Sedgwick where Hobson published the Jayhawker, now the Sedgwick

The couple returned to Wichita in 1884 and Dr. Hobson practiced

Mrs. Hobson was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Nettie A. [husband Jessie L.]
Thompson and Mrs.  Agnes L. [husband Harvey E.] Davenport, both of 1350 S.
Emporia, and Mrs. Edna [husband Brightley] Rowe, 1229 Pattie; two sons,
H. W. [Herbert Wayne] Hobson, 616 S. Estelle, and E. B. [Elmer] Hobson,
1400 S. Topeka; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and five
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Broadway Mortuary.
The Rev. David L. Miller will officiate.  Burial will be in Wichita
Park Cemetery.

The book HOBSON, Descendents of George & Elizabeth Hobson by Earl H.
Davis, 1957, says Lewellen died 31 AUG 1957 and her parents were Robert
McConnaughey and Elizabeth Ann Patton.

Evelyn Swan (great-granddaughter of Marcus Hobson's brother Minos) is a
great-great niece by marriage to Lewellen.
