FRANCIS PETER VOHS

27. Francis (Frank) Peter[5] Vohs (Anthony Eugene[4] Vohs, Caspar[3] Vohs, Georg Joseph[2] Voos, Caspar[1] Voos) He was born 4 January 1872 at Wea, Kansas. He was confirmed at the Catholic church at Paola, Kansas, on 26 May 1885. He died at Trinity Luthern Hospital at Kansas City, Missouri, on 16 June 1936 after being struck by a car. He is buried at Osawatomie, Kansas.[132]

Francis Vohs was married to Myrtle Martha Merriman (Merryman) on 12 August 1896 at Paola, Kansas, by J. M. Mason, Probate Judge. It is assumed that they were married by the judge because they belonged to different churches. She was the daughter of M. [Elmer] Burkhead Merriman (born 12 September 1849 in Indiana) and Ermaline Buckmaster (born 12 August 1849 at Marion County, Ohio). Ermaline Buckmaster's mother was born in Pennsylvania and her maiden name was Reid. Myrtle Martha Merriman was born April 1877 or 20 March 1878 at Decatur County, Indiana, died 11 January 1973 at Manhatten, Kansas, and is buried at Osawatomie, Kansas. Myrtle Martha Merriman had six brothers and sisters - Andy, an unknown brother, Sallie (married Andy Smith), Arvilla (married a Van Dyke), Olive (married Mart Hollingsworth) and Ida (married Fred DeMott). Francis Vohs remained a Catholic all of his life. Myrtle Martha Merriman was an Episcopalian and raised all eight of their children as Episcopalians.[133]

In the 1920 U.S. census, Ruth and Floyd were not recorded with the family. It is believed that Floyd died before 1920. Ruth is believed to have been living in Tulsa, Oklahoma.[134]
