CASPAR VOHS

9. Caspar[3] Vohs (Voos) (Georg Joseph[2] Voos, Caspar[1] Voos) Caspar (Casparus) Vohs was born/baptized on 3 February 1797 at Lorch in the Dukedom of Nassau. The Oberselters church records list his occupation as being a school teacher. He was married to Helena Muller on 1 May 1827 at the Catholic Church at Camberg, Nassau, by Peter Vermer, a Catholic priest. Aul and Johanna Adam Muller were witnesses to the marriage. Helena Muller was born on 25 October 1809 at Oberselters, Nassau. Her parents were Peter Muller and Helena Seck from Oberselters. Peter Muller's occupation was listed as farmer.[7] (Note: Because the original records were difficult to read, the surnames Vermer and Seck are approximations but appear to be correct.)

The marriage record of his son Eugene Vohs, listing his parents names, provides the connection between the families in Wea, Miami County, Kansas, and Oberselters, Germany.[8] The death record of Peter Vohs, listing his father's name, also provides another a link between the families in Kansas and Germany.[9]

The first ten children listed below are recorded in the archive records of the Camberg Catholic Church of the diocese of Limburg, Germany.[10] The eleventh child listed (Joseph Vohs, #20) resided with the family of Joseph Vohs (#14) during the 1865 Kansas census and, based upon his age, he is assumed to be a younger brother.[11]
