The five Vohs brothers who immigrated from Oberselters in the Dukedom of Nassau to settle in Wea Township of Miami County in Kansas had 149 known grandchildren. The brothers started life as farmers in Miami County and some of their decendants remain farming to this day. Other decendants worked as skilled construction craftsman, local mayors, teachers, merchants, bankers, newspaper publishers, and in many other professions. Members of the family served the country during the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean War and Viet Nam War.
Only one of the 149 grandchildren has been included in this electronic summary. This was done for two reasons: 1) to minimize the amount of work involved in preparing the information, and 2) to provide privacy for those individuals who are still living. Information about the other individuals can be found in the manuscript The Vohs Families of Kansas. Copies of the manuscript have been provided to the Department of History, 3301 Wescoe Hall, The University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kansas 66045-2130, and the Miami County Genealogy Society, P.O. Box 123, Paola, Kansas 66071.
