As with many of the early pioneers of Miami County, Kansas, the Vohs brothers came to the United States from Oberselters in the Dukedom of Nassau (which was absorbed into the Kingdom of Prussia in 1866). In the 1850's and 1860's the Vohs brothers (Anthony, Joseph, Jacob, Peter and Eugene) immigrated to the United States. They spent their first years in Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois and Missouri, before gathering together at Wea, Kansas.
He was born on 16 August 1829 at Oberselters in the Dukedom of Nassau. He died at his home in Wea township 18 January 1907. He came to Kansas in the winter of 1858 and the spring of 1859 found him in Miami County, where he bought 215 acres of land in Wea township. He was first married in Illinois in 1858 to Elizabeth Becker (daughter of Peter Becker). She was born about the year 1837-1838 in Nassau, Germany, and died about September 1876. He was married the second time between 1876 and 1880 to Barbara Hughes. She was born in Ireland in July 1844.
He was born 24 February 1836 at Oberselters in the Dukedom of Nassau. He died 15 July 1913. Joseph Vohs married Roseta Hirt on 28 August 1858 in Kendall County, Illinois. In April 1863 Joseph Vohs and Rose Hirt moved to Wea, Kansas, where they remained until their deaths. Rose Hirt was born September 1835 in Baden, Germany, and died 25 December 1913 and is buried with her husband in the Wea Cemetery, Wea, Kansas.
He was born 1 May 1840 at Oberselters in the Dukedom of Nassau. He and Bridget Doherty were married in 1868. She was born about 1850 in Ireland, and died 17 October 1875.
He was born 4 June 1842 at Oberselters in the Dukedom of Nassau. He died on 18 May 1896. First he married Margaret Pabst about 1868. She was born in Prussia about 1845-46. Second he married Caroline Eder of Eudora, Kansas, about 1871. She was born about 1849 in Germany. Third he married Josephine (Josee) A. Bishop on 8 June 1882.
18. Eugene Vohs
He was born in 31 July 1844 at Oberselters in the Dukedom of Nassau. He was shot and killed on 24 November 1906. Eugene Vohs came to America in 1866, coming directly to Miami County, Kansas, and locating on Sec. 32, Township 15, Range 25, where he engaged in farming. Eugene Vohs was married at Wea, 9 January 1872, to Margaret Goebel. Margaret Goebel was born in March 1854 in Prussia (Germany).
