The town of Woodbine was founded by J.A. Gillet, Sr. on July 16, 1887. Mr. Gillet came to Kansas from Woodbine, Illinois in 1869. He immediately called the town Woodbine after his home town in Illinois. The original town covered the north eighty acres of the northwest quarter of section 35-14-4.
