Chandler
A well-known family of early Shawnee Township was the Chandler family. In later years the family operated a farm and nursery. A still familiar landmark is the well-house of that old nursery. A large spring originated on the property and flowed southward 50 yards or so to the west of 47th Street. During the 1951 flood the well-house was a valuable source of drinking water for the Santa Fe Railroad and many local residents. In later years the property was owned by the Clyde Cook family. Today, the well-house stands on the property of the Anderson family at the corner of Gibbs Road amd 47th Street. (Submitted by Harold Cook)
