Fort Scott National Cemetery Info
from Kansas CountyCam's visit to Fort Scott
The Fort Scott National Cemetery was established in 1862 by President Abraham Lincoln for US Civil War veterans. This was the first of the 12 original national cemeteries, in use 40 days before the National Cemetery at Arlington, VA.
Larger tombstones are for people who had already been buried in the Presbyterian congregation cemetery which became the national cemetery.
