4-H 1979
There are eight 4-H clubs in Barber County: B-Square, Gyp Hills, Pioneers,
Hazelton, Lone Eagle, Mingona Boosters, Sharon Boosters, Sharon Valley, State
Line and Sunflower. There are 45 basic projects. Those taken in our county
are cattle, swine, sheep, horses, rabbits, chickens, grains, electricity,
wood working, recreation, foods, clothing, grooming, photography, reading,
home improvement, knitting, crochet, arts, citizenship, echology, entomology,
fun with children, health, leadership, People to People and public speaking.
Citizenship is an impoartant part of the program and camp for representatives
is available to many. Scholarships are an important reward for deserving
youngsters also.
The 4-H emblem means Head, Heart, Hands and Health. The motto is: "To
make the best better". Annual appreciation Friends of 4-H picnic is held
in the fall when 4-H families entertain those who have helped throughout
the year. In November an achievement banquet is given for 4-Hers by the
Chamber of Commerce. Awards for the years work are distributed and recog-
nition is given for outstanding work. Many of our county members are winners
in competition at Hutchinson State Fair.
