Calvin P. Adams

Calvin P. Adams and Nancy H. Zukefoose were married April 1, 1889, in Ness
City, Kansas. They homesteaded in Oklahoma but returned tot he Nine Cottonwood
valley east of Sharon in early 1900. I am the youngest of nine children and was
born in 1912. Six of us reached adulthood. Dottie (Mrs. Jim Trotter), Loren,
Ralph, Edith (Mrs. Gus Luddewig), Abbie (Mrs. Bruce Dressler), and Orville. Just
after I arrived, dad was injured and was unable to farm so he turned the operation
over to the older children and their husbands. He acquired the Baley ranch north-
west of Hardtner to expand the farming operation.
It wasn't until 1926 that we moved to Hardtner to make our home. We were
active in the Methodist Church, dad teaching a class, and I was active in Epworth
League. Dad also served as Hardtner Police Judge for several terms.
Dad and mother celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 1949.
I attended high school at Hardtner and graduated in 1930. I attended one year
at NSTC at Alva. In 1934 I married Dora Elizebeth, the oldest daughter of J.M. and
Mary Molz. We lived in Hardtner until 1939, where I worked in the Hardtner Supply
Store. During this time, four of our five children were born: Betty, Zelores, Stanton
     and Leah.
In 1939 I went to work for Z-Ranch and lived in the old Mitchell ranch house.
Just after I went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company in 1944, our fifth child,
Benita, was born. In 1947 I moved my family to Miami County. I retired in 1975 and
live in Paola, Kansas. We have sixteen grandchildren and one great grandson.
Of the six descendents of Cal and Nancy Adams, five still survive: Loren, Ralph
     Edith, Abbie and Orville.
Sister Dottie passed away in 1935, mother in 1952, and Dad in 1953.
