Sarah Lasswell Angell

From the diary of - Sarah Anna Lasswell Angell: Birthdate Feb. 6, 1894, at
Oxley, Oklahoma, daughter of allen and Lizzie Lasswell.
My father was a Justice of the Peace, storekeeper, and Postmaster.
Around the turn of the century, we moved to Sharon. Living there one year,
we then moved to Medicine Lodge. During 1903-1904, we lived in Missouri and
then moved back to Medicine Lodge. A couple of months later, we moved to what
was known as Lasswell, southwest of Medicine Lodge.
Dad built a house and store and put in groceries and dry goods. Later a
Post Office was put in the store and named Lasswell by the United States Post
Office Department. The store still stands, being preserved in its near original
  state.
January 1905, I met Will Angell, son of the David Angells. The Angells lived
on the old Kenney place. Will is twenty-one at the time, but he became my child-
  hood sweetheart.
There was always a crowd at our store on Sundays, as they all played ball in
  the afternoon.
Literary was quite an important event in those days. People farmed with horses,
and work stopped and chores were done early, making time for neighborhood gatherings.
Late in 1909 our store and land was sold, and we left Lasswell, living in
Texas and New Mexico. This was a sad time for me. I was nearly sixteen, and Will
and I had become real sweethearts.
We were living in Otto, New Mexico, when on April 8, 1913, my dear Will came,
and we were married April 19th. We immediately left for Medicine Lodge. Will had
a farm in the Lasswell Community. Part of the land he had bought from my Dad in
1909. Five wonderful children were born to this union.
From 1923 to 1931 the Lasswell Post Office was in our dining room. I served as
  Postmaster for eight years.
Until 1934 we attended Union Chapel Sunday School and Church. Church services
were then held in the Lasswell store building - known as Lasswell Assembly of God.
We attended there until it was discontinued. Our house was only a quarter of a
mile from church, so our home was a gathering place for many of the neighbors and
friends after Sunday morning services until Sunday evening services. The afternoon
was spent eating, visiting, and the children enjoyed their games.
In 1944 we retired from the farm. We bought Grandma Lonker's house on South Main
in Medicine Lodge. Will passed away in the fall of 1956, and the farm was sold in
  1973.
My five children are all living. They are: Irene Bobb, Coolidge, Arizona; Allen
(Bud) Angell, Belton, Missouri; Eula Jacobs, Garden City, Kansas; Ethel Mae Rogers,
Louisville, Kentucky; and Kenneth of Grandview, Missouri.
I have thrteen lovely grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
I am at this time in a home in Missouri waiting for the Lord to take me home, so
I can be with my Beloved Will.
Note: Sarah died on July 26, 1978.
