Clif Angle

Clif and Doris Angle were married at Harper, Kansas. At that time Clif was
operator of a Sinclair Service Station, which was located where the Chamber
of Commerce office is now. Prior to that, Clif had operated a station on the
corner of Highway 281 and Stolp Street. They were in Medicine Lodge until 1941,
when they moved to Anthony and then on to Wellington, where Clif was employed
as a fireman for Santa Fe Railroad for 8 years. Because of loss of vision in
his left eye he was removed from service.
The Angles then reutned to Medicine Lodge, bringing with them their two sons,
Rodney, born in 1942, and Dennis in 1946.
Clif purchased the Skelly station on Highway 160 in 1950 from Stan Rodgers.
His partner in this business was his uncle, Laverne Bishop. This partnership
was dissolved in 1952, at which time Clif bought the Champlin Station on Main
Street from Joe Hill. He was in this location for 17 years. He bought the
Swaydon Locker Plant, put in a Meat Processing Locker, and also sold ice. In
1975 he leased this business to Dale Chain, and Clif became a Kansas State
  Meat Inspector.
Rodney graduated from Kansas University with a Doctorate in Electrical
Engineering and is in the Research Dept. of RCA in Princeton, New Jersey. He
married Karen Swartz, who was Miss Kansas in 1964, and they have two children,
Roderick and Stephanie. Rodney and Karen spent two years (1965-1967) in the
  Peace Corps.
Dennis graduated from Emporia State and then spent 4 years in the Navy
during the Viet Nam conflict. One year was spent in Antarctica. He returned
to college and received his Master's in Guidance and Counseling. He married
Susan Scott from Hays,Kansas. They were employed at Albion College in Albion,
Michigan for two years. They are now at Kansas State. Both are working on
  Doctorates.
Clif, over the years, has been very active in church and civic organizations.
He has been a Deacon in the Christian Church and worked in the men's organization.
He held a state office in Men's Work of Kansas Christian Churches. He has been
President of the Chamber of Commerce and Lions Club and very active in both.
He is on the board of the Indian Peace Treaty Pageant and has had charge of
preparing the grounds for 25 years. He is also on the Board of Directors of the
Stockade and Carry Nation home. He was a member of the City Council for 10 years
and is a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was given a Plaque for Outstanding
Achievements for the Community at the Recognition Banquet on February 7, 1977.
Doris has been active in the Christian Church, both with the Women's and
Youth groups. In 1957, she organized the first PTA in Medicine Lodge. She has
worked the past 15 years at the First National Bank.
The Angles are proud of their community and hope that the little they have
contributed may have helped it to be the outstanding community that it is today.
