Robert Balding

Lois Evelyn Hart, daughter of Chester Riley and Beatrice Graham Hart, was
born September 16, 1913, at Clifton, Kansas; however, the Hart home was in
Cline Community, Beaver County, Oklahoma, near what is now Laverne. Lois had
a sister, Marie, and a brother, Chet.
Chester Riley Hart died December 25, 1918, of influenza just four months
before Chet was born. Beatrice was quite ill with influenza also, but survived.
In 1921 Beatrice married Edward Ryser. They had a daughter, Vera. Edward
  died in 1937.
Lois attended school in Oklahoma. In 1930 she married Arthur Whitaker.
They had two children, Wilma and Gary. Their home was at Laverne. In 1938
Lois and the children moved to Medicine Lodge.
Robert Balding was born June 24, 1894, to Lewis and Ella Ligon Balding,
six miles east of Medicine Lodge on the "Sockless Jerry Simpson" place. They
later moved with his parents, a brother, Ray, and sisters, Florence and Merle,
to the Rausch farm, where brother John was born. In 1900 they were living
five miles east of Medicine Lodge, near Walstead School, when another brother,
  Lewis, was born.
The Balding children all attended Walstead School through eighth grade.
Robert attended Medicine Lodge High School for a year of two; however his
father felt he didn't need a high school education to become a farmer. Robert
and his brothers farmed with their father a few years, then moved to the Jones
place southwest of the home place. He spent the remainder of his life there.
Lois and Robert were married July 20, 1939, and he continued to farm. Lois'
children were only 6 and 7 years old, and Robert loved them as though they
  were his own.
Wilma married Richard Pebbles. They have two sons, Mark and Robert. Gary
married Joy Neal. They had five children, Janna, Jill and Barry, Greg and
  Jerry. They were later divorced.
Lois's sister, Marie, married Arlo McCain. Chet married Effie Mae Shaw,
both Barber County residents, and Vera married Gene Waters.
Robert's brother, Ray, married Ada Mae Kritzmeyer; and after her death,
he married Cora Wells. Florence married Otis Shore. Merle and Paul Fair were
also married. John Balding married Carrie Springer, and Lewis married Mildred
  Warren.
As Robert's health began to fail, Lois cared for him very lovingly and
faithfully for nearly 13, years. He passed away August 1, 1971. Lois remained
on the farm for awhile, and eventually made her home in Medicine Lodge, where
she passed away, June 24, 1976.
Lois' mother Beatrice Ryser, lives at Indian Hills Lodge. Chet and Effie
Mae also live in Medicine Lodge.
