Montie Wason Baty

Montie Wason Baty and Georgia Francis Heydenreich were united in marriage,
February 17, 1950, at Alva, Oklahoma.
I am the daughter of Emil and Lila Heydenreich and was welcomed as the
New Year's Baby of 1931. The major part of my childhood was spent on the farm
south of town, where I attended Sunflower School, District 34. One exciting
incident of attending rural school was the afternoon when school was dismissed
so we could dig one of the boys out of a coyote hole where he claimed he was
stuck. The last-day-of-school dinner was great fun, with all the fancy and good
  food.
I remember the scary first day of high school in Medicine Lodge. I didn't
even have Lyle Coberly or Leigh Broendyke in any of my classes to follow! There
were so many people to meet and names to remember! I was scared to death!
In my junior year I met Montie, who came to Medicine Lodge int he summer of
1947 to visit his brother Lowell, who was in the hospital after a serious
accident. Montie stayed on, living with the Harold Rosessler family, helping on
Harold's milk route and in the cafe. Montie was born in Bendavis, Missouri, in
1931. We both graduated from high school in 1949.
Our first son, Michael Wason, was born in 1950. Montie and I accepted Jesus
Christ as our Lord and Savior and were baptized by Rev. Charles Whitmer as
members of the Christian Church. We were blessed with a second son, Terry Lynn,
  in 1951.
Montie left his state highway job in Medicine Lodge and worked for Trains
Construction Company in Lindsborg for a while. But we decided "this isn't our
cup of tea;" so we moved to Newton, where Montie went back to work for the
State Highway Department of Transportation. While living in Newton, Montie
attended evening classes at Wichita University, studying engineering. While in
Newton, our daughter, Debra Ann, was born in 1955, and our son, Douglas Ray, in
  1961.
In 1965 we moved to Leoti, Kansas, where Monti was resident engineer for the
Department of Transportation. After several other moves, we now live in Garden
City; Montie is Maintenance Engineer for Kansas Department of Transportation.
We enjoy elk hunting each fall, fish and camp, play bridge, and work with
  the youth in our church.
My special hobby is china painting. Montie has a pilot's license and enjoys
flying. We fly to Denver occasionally to visit our children and spoil our
grandson. We enjoy returning to Medicine Lodge for special events and family
  get-togethers.
We thank the Lord for all these blessings and numerous more we can't mention
  in this short story.
