Robinson Bayliffe

Robinson and Ida (Martindale) Bayliffe and three children came to Barber
County, Kansas, in 1910. We came from Crosby Garrett, Westmoreland, England.
  The three children were Margaret (Madge) Bayliffe, now Mrs. Margaret Lubbers;
Alice Tharp, now deceased; and Martindale Bayliffe, now deceased. We came by
ship to Quebec, Canada, and traveled to Barber County by train.
Mr. Bayliffe was a cousin to Mr. Tom Balmer and half-brother to George
Metcalf who were already residents of Barber County. Three children were born
to Mr. and Mrs. Bayliffe here in the United States. They are Mrs. Sarah Vincent,
Medicine Lodge; Mr. Isaac Bayliffe, Geary, Okla; and Mrs. Ena Smith, Wichita, KS.
Mr. Bayliffe worked at the Byp Mill a while. He was also a Wesley Methodist
minister and filled the pulpit here at times.
Mr. Balmer moved to town, so Mr. Bayliffe and family moved to the country on
  Mr. Balmer's farm.
I attended country school known as Sunflower School. Daddy passed away on
the farm in 1923. Mother rented the farm to Wes Long, and she moved to Medicine
  Lodge.
In 1919 I married William Colborn. We had four children. William farmed for
a living. The children are Frank Colborn, Cabool, MO.; Ruth Lindwall, LaPorte,
Ind.; Dwain Colborn, deceased; and Margaret Rutan, Medicine Lodge. William
  died in February, 1938.
In 1941 George Colborn and I married and had one son, John Colborn, Medicine
Lodge. George farmed in Barber County. He died January 26, 1969.
In later years Mr. Eike Lubbers and I were married here at home. He always
lived in Ensign, KS. He was a farmer and also Mayor of Ensign. He passed away
  May 10, 1978.
I took care of elderly people in my home for over thirty years.
In 1971 I had the pleasure of going back to see my home in England. It was
over 60 years since I had been there. My daughter, Ruth, and her husband, Harold,
and I traveled to England to visit my childhood home and visit friends and
  relatives.
I am a member of the Methodist Church, Golden Age Club, Community Club, and
  Senior Citizens.
