Oliver David Bell, son of Frank and Maude (Angell) Bell, was born on his parents'
farm, northwest of Afton, Oklahoma. He was fifth of twelve children.
In 1920 Frank Bell sold the farm and moved his family to Eagle Township, Barber
County. Ollie attended eagle School from grades 2 to 8. He graduated from Medicine
Lodge High School in 1931. He played guard on the 1930 undefeated football team. In
1943 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served at Camp Polk, Louisiana and Camp
Barkley, Texas. He received a medical discharge in 1944.
When his father died in 1944, Ollie and his brother James took over the ranch,
located five miles west of Union Chapel. In 1950 James moved to an adjoining ranch.
Ollie and his mother lived together until 1959. At that time Mrs. Bell moved to
  Medicine Lodge.
Ollie married the former Wilma Austin, July 5, 1959. Wilma Margarite Austin was
the only child of Will D. and Margaret Austin. She was born on the Austin homestead
six miles southeast of Isabel. All 12 years of her schooling were at Isabel Consolidated
School. Wilma attended Sterling College, Pratt Junior College and graduated from
Northwestern State at Alva, Oklahoma. She taught school 7 years at Eldred and Eagle
  schools.
Ollie and Wilma are members of Union Chapel. Ollie serves on the church board.
Wilma teaches a Sunday School class and is involved in Bible study and the Ladies Aid.
Ollie was treasurer of the Eagle Township Board for 13 years. Wilma is Public Relations
Chairman of Flying Eagle Unit. As a child, she was a charter member of B-square 4-H
and later served that club and Lone Eagle as leader.
Harold Austin Bell graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1965. At Sterling
College he earned a degree in psychology. In the Army he was stationed at Fort Lee,
Virginia, and in Viet Nam. He worked in S.R.S. offices in Kansas City and Sedan. Now
Harold is enrolled at Central Baptist Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas.
Will David Bell was a Medicine Lodge High School graduate in 1969. He attended
Sterling College, Kansas State, and graduated from Hays State with a degree in
agricultural economics. He is now engaged in farming with his parents. He is interested
in Navagators and is involved in church and 4-H activities.
Glenda Margaret graduated from the local high school in 1962, attending Sterling
College, and worked for a Hutchinson insurance firm. On July 1, 1967, she married
Robert Singer, son of Kenneth and Peggy Singer. Robert is associated with Consolidated
Rebuilders at Hutchinson. Their daugher, Jennifer, was born January 8, 1972.
The Oliver Bell family is glad to have roots anchored in Barber County. It is good
to stop and consider the past, for the past is prologue. Even more than this, it is a
comfort to have roots anchored in the Lord.
