Louise Wadsworth Bloom
Louise, daughter of Fred and Florence Wadsworth was born June 26, 1906, at 211
West Washington, Medicine Lodge, Kansas. She was the youngest of four children.
The others being Virgil (1899-1939), Albert (1901-1965), and MIldred (Mrs. Wilbur
Murray), Hutchinson, KS.
Louise attended grade school and high school in Medicine Lodge. She jhoined the
Methodist Church at a very early age and taught Sunday School and sang in the choir
many years.
She took the Normal Training Course in High School, and on graduation received
her teacher's certificate to teach in the rural schools in the state. She taught
Grandview School north of town for 2 years, teaching all grades. The following
2 1/2 years she attended Southwestern College, Winfield, KS, and Emporia Teachers
College to renew her teaching certificate. After which she taught 2 years at
Pleasant Hill Rural School south of Medicine Lodge and 2 1/2 years at Walstead
School east of Medicine Lodge.
She married Glenn Lonker Bloom July 24, 1932. They were married on a Sunday
morning in the beautiful flower garden of her parents. The first four years they
lived in a duplex apartment just west of the Methodist Church. Her sister and
brother-in-law, Mildred and Wilbur Murray, lived in the adjoining apartment.
In the summer of 1936 Glenn and Louise purchased the ranch south of town, then
known as the St. Joe Cattle Co. Ranch. On this ranch they lived and raised their
family of 2 boys and 2 girls.
Louise will receive her 50 year membership to Eastern Star this year. She
served as Mother Advisor of Rainbow Girls for many years. She has been an Avon
representative for 25 years.
Glenn and Louise's children include Dean, born April 23, 1934. He is Vice Pres.
and Cashier of the First State Bank of Larned. He married Glenna Lee Brown. Charles
was born Jan. 17, 1937. He married Mary Stucky. He is associated with E.F. Hutton.
They live in Overland Park, KS.
Betty was born March 23, 1939. She married Vernon Buell, coach and teacher. They
live in Medicine Lodge. Marie was born March 31, 1942. She married Alan Hanson, a
lawyer, and they live in Pratt, KS.
Glenn and Louise are still living on their ranch and are enjoying their semi-
retirement. They have 12 grandchildren: Laurie, Matt, Steve and Clint, children of
Mary and Charles; Jody, Craig, and Chris are the children of Glenna and Dean; Lisa,
David, and Jack are Betty and Vernon's children; Stacy and Greg are children of Marie
and Alan.
Through the years many "Happy Gatherings" of family and friends have taken place
at "The Blooms" south of town.
