Allen Bowman

Allen bowman and Norene Scholl were married September 19, 1926. He is one of the six
children of Anna (Lasswell) and John Bowman who settled south of Sharon, Kansas.
Allen was born near Sharon and was nicknamed "Punch" by his sister Violet, was
called "Judy" by their uncle at an early age. Punch still carries that name today.
The Bowman family moved to the Lasswell Community (the postoffice named for an uncle,
Allen Lasswell), and here PUnch grew up. He attended Eagle School. Some teachers were
  Z. Stewart, Mr. Hagerman, a one legged man who held complete control of his classes,
  and Mable Herr.
As a young man, with a cousin Jesse Lasswell, Punch went seeking his fortune. He
covered a great deal of the States, working awhile, then "moving on" as many young
men did in those days. They worked the broomcorn harvest, followed the wheat harvest
and finally tried their luck railroading.
It was May 1926 while at Harper with Andy Rinke they decided to take in the carnival
which was in town. Two good friends (girls) were also attending the carnival and it was
here that Allen (Punch) Bowman met his future bride. Norene Scholl. Following a
whirlwind courtship, they were married in September.
Norene Scholl was born at Stidham, Oklahoma. Her mother died when Norene was 11 months
old and she, with an older brother, was reared by her grandparents. She attended school
in Oklahoma until her grandmother's eath when she went to live with an aunt and uncle
in Wichita, Kansas. Upon transfer of her uncle to Harper, she attended Harper High
School, until her marriage to Allen.
The Bowmans established their first home in Wellington where he was working on the
  railroad.
In 1927 they moved tothe Storm Ranch just north of Union Chapel in Barber County.
They farmed a couple of years, and were spared complete destruction of their home in
the 1927 tornado. They had no cave for safety as did their neighbors, however, theirs
was the only home along the road left standing. There was much damage but they knew it
was a miracle that they were spared.
In 1929 Punch went to work for Barbara Oil Company in the new Medicine Lodge gas
field. He continued with that company reaching the position of superintendent when
Shorty Rodgers retired. Barbara Oil Company sold to Kewanee Oil Company and he helped
during the transition period. He continues as pumper for some of Barbara Oil production
as well as for several other company holdings, even though he considers himself partially
  "retired."
In the fall of 1932 Punch and NOrene commited their lives to the Lord and have
allowed Him to direct them these many years. They worship at the First Assembly of God
Church in Medicine Lodge. Both are active in Gideions and Auxillary International.
Norene is a member of Garden Club and they both enjoy their yard, garden, berries and
  flowers.
They remodeled their home in preparation for retirement and rented it a few years,
following extensive fire damage, they again repaired and remodeled it and moved from
  the Barbara Oil Lease.
The Allen Bowmans celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in September 1976,
with Rachel Bowman, her sons and wives hosting.
