William Louis Bragg


     William Louis Bragg, son of LOuis and Clara Bragg, was born in Raleigh County, West
  Virginia, December 30 1853, and died at Medicine Lodge, February 26, 1941. W.L. Bragg
  was married in West Virginia March 29, 1877, to Sabina Kincaid (born February 2, 1860)
  and with their first child, James O. Bragg (born February 5, 1878), moved west in a
  covered wagon accompanied by a friend, India Shanks, and her daughter, Linnie. They
  lived in St. Clair County, Missouri, for a short time. While in Missouri, a son, born
  in 1880, died in infancy and in 1881 twins, William and his sister, were born. The boy
  survived. The Braggs then moved to Harper, Kansas. During their residence in Harper, a
  daughter, Lena, was born July 7, 1884. "Lude" Bragg later moved his family to Barber
  County in 1885 and lived in Eagle Twonship, where he farmed and raised cattle for
  several years. Cora was born January 6, 1886. Another son was born to the Braggs in
  1890 who died in infancy and was buried in Lodi Cemetery in Eagle Township. Sabina,
  first wife of W.L., died in 1896 and was also buried in Lodi Cemetery.
     In 1898 W.L. Brag married Lena Lois Gibbs who was born in Oskaloosa, Kansas, on
  July 22, 1866. Their children are Helen Gladys, 1899-1974 (m. Charles L. Wise); a
  son born in 1902 who died in infancy; Eva Aline, 1904; and Louis E., 1908 (m. Ruby
  Williams).
     Mr. Bragg and family moved to Medicine Lodge in 1904, where he spent the remainder
  of his life. He served as Barber County Register of Deeds, was a Probate Judge, a
  member of Medicine Lodge City Council, and owned and opereated an abstract office at
  the time of his death. His wife, Lena, was deceased in 1941. They are buried in
  Medicine Lodge Highland Cemetery.
     The Bragg survivors are Lena Wiliams, Rocky Ford, Colorado, (m. Harve Williams and
  lived the early part of their married life in Barber County); Eva Bragg Roberts, Boerne,
  Texas; Louise E. Ft. Scott, Kansas.
     James O. Bragg died in 1957, having lived in Barber County during his lifetime. He
  worked in Sun City until he retired. His son, Harold (m. Elma Garten) lives in Wilmore,
  Kansas. His daughter, Marjorie Bragg McKenna, lives at Great Bend, Kansas.
     William Bragg (born April 3, 18810 lived a lifetime in Barber County and was well
  known having worked near Medicine Lodge on a ranch and after retirement made his home
  with his sister, Cora Warren, and family. "Bill" never married and died in 1973 at the
  age of 92.
     Cora Bragg married Frank J. Warren and the history of their family is written in
  this Barber County record.
     Helen Bragg married Charles L. Wise and lived in Barber County during her lifetime.
  Their children are Jean Houlton, Hazelton, Kansas; James L. Wise, Medicine Lodge; and
  Stephen A. Wise, Abilene, Kansas.
     Eva Bragg Roberts attended school in Medicine Lodge and has lived many years in
  Texas.
     Louis E. Bragg spent the early part of his life in Medicine Lodge. He served in the
  Navy in World War II. Louis and his wife, Ruby, are parents of Terry and Gerry both
  born at Medicine Lodge.
