Steve Bryan
Stephen C. Bryan, son of Virgil and Twilla Bryan, was born in Salina, Kansas, November
18, 1949. He spent the first five years of his life in Durham, Kansas, and in 1955 he,
his parents, and his older brother, Jerry, moved to Medicine Lodge. There his father
bought the Phillips 66 station, now Bryan Oil Company. Steve attended the Medicine Lodge
schools for 12 years, graduating in 1967.
Suellen Schrepel, daughter of Melvin and Beth Schrepel, was born in Wichita, Kansas,
January 14, 1947. She, a younger sister, Jane, and a younger brother, Benny, lived on
their parents farm west of Coats, Kansas. Suellen attended the Coats school all 12 years
and graduated in 1965.
Steve and Suellen were married in Coats, March 30, 1974. They lived in Emporia, Kansas
for 3 1/2 years. There Steve was in business for himself, and Suellen worked at the
Emporia State Press on the Emporia State University campus. On February 2, 1977, a
daughter, Kendra Kae, was born to them in Emporia.
In August of 1977, the family moved to Medicine Lodge where Steve bought his father's
business of 22 years. Bryan Oil Company, located at 201 West Fowler.
Steve and Suellen plan to make Medicine Lodge their home for many years and raise their
family in the beautiful Gyp Hills and among the warm and friendly people of the area.
At the time htis was written, Steve (29) was growing a beard for the 1979 Peace Treaty.
Suellen (32) was pregnant with their second child to be born in the summer; and Kendra was
two years old.
