Delbert Burgin
Delbert and Ruth McLain Burgin were raised on adjoining ranches along Mulberry Creek.
Delbert was born in 1892 on the flats less than 2 miles above Mulberry, but his parents
moved to the bottom land when he was less than a year old.
Ruth McLain moved to the adjoining ranch on the south with her parents in 1908 from
Woodson County, Kansas.
Delbert, like his father before him, looked for homestead land and found it in
Montana, which was where Delbert and Ruth started their married life. They returned to
Barber County in 1922 for the birth of their daughter, Marietta. They lived about 2
miles from Sun City south of the Medicine River for 5 years. Then they moved to the
McLain ranch on Mulberry Creek for 2 years, but again the settlement of new lands called,
and they moved to the western most part of the Oklahoma Panhandle in 1930.
