Edwin Neville Carper II


     Ed Carper opened Carper Drug Store in Medicine Lodtge in 1938, in the space where
  the Masonic Building now stands. Two years later we moved uptown to 102 N. Main, where
  for twenty years we owned and operated Carper Drug Store.
     In 1960 we retired and sold our drug store, but continued to live in our brick and
  frame home on South Walnut, purchased in 1945. The cornerstone of our house is dated
  1908.
     Our two children, Edwin III and Gladys Louise attended grade and high school here.
  Edwin III married Donna Young in September, 1960, and they are the parents of Michelle
  Louise born August 29, 1961, Erica Lynn born February 10, 1972, and Edwin IV born
  April 23, 1975. Gladys married Timothy Malone June 23, 1963, and their two boys are
  John Thomas born April 9, 1964, and Timothy John born March 1, 1960.
     Ed Carper served six years on the School Board was a member and past president of
  the Chamber of Commerce. Ed was one of the members of the Methodist Building Committee
  and continued to serve on the project until the Church and Fellowship Hall were built.
     Adah Carper helped in the Carper Drug Store, meeting customers, helping keep the
  record books, sending quarterly government reports, etc. Adah was a member of Monday
  Afternoon Club many years and has belonged to the Pleasant Hour Book Club since 1945.
  Adah is a member of the United Methodist Church and served as president of the Woman's
  Society in 1948. The United Council of Church Women was organized in 1947, and all 
  churches of Medicine Lodge were invited to join; Adah served as its second president.
     Ed Carper attended Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. He enlisted in the United
  States Army in 1916 and served in combat in France during World War I. He attended the
  University of Toulouse, France, for two years while serving with the Army of Occupation.
  He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW organizations.
     Ed Carper is buried in the Medicine Lodge Highland Cemetery and that, too, will be
  my (Adah Carper) final resting place. Since we own three double cemetery lots. Nos 536-
  537-538, Addition C. Edwin and Gladys may also be buried here.
