Murray Chance


     Andrew Murray Chance, son of Elam and Lizzie Chance was born in Medicine Lodge,
  Kansas on January 14, 1896. He passed away in Pratt, Kansas, on December 29, 1945.
     Hattie Carmen Turnage, daughter of Presley Lane Turnage and Rose Etta Atwell
  Turnage, was born in Mena, Arkansas on August 16, 1903. She passed away in Halstead,
  Kansas, on February 10, 1952.
     On February 19, 1921, at 6:15 in the evening Hattie Carmen Turnage Turnage
  became the wofe of Andrew Murray Chance, with her mother Mrs. Rosa Turnage in 
  attendance. The Probate Judge was S.P. Garrison, with W.L. Bragg, the Justice of
  the Peace.
     On February 6, 1929, they bought their home just east of Medicine Lodge from
  Harve and Mae Tedrow. There they raised their five children. Andrew Murray Jr.
  (b Jan. 1, 1922,d. Jan. 9, 1968); Jack Kenneth, (b. Nov. 16, 1923, d. Aug., 1953);
  Elam Preston (Bill)(b. Oct. 13, 1925); Darlene Rose, (b. Sept. 4, 1927, d. Jan 1,
  1961),; and Virginia Louise, (b. Oct. 11, 1930).
     Murray called "Pop" by his family, worked for Long & Bauman's Creamery for
  several years. Then during the war years they moved to Lamar, Col., and he worked
  as a carpenter on the relocation center for the Japanese, later moving to Cimarron
  and Hays, Kansas, and back to Medicine Lodge in 1944.
     On returning to Medicine Lodge he went to work for KP&L where he was working at
  the time of his death. There was an explosion at a pump station just south of town, 
  where Murray was injured.
     On July 19, 1947, Darlene Rose was married to Thomas Morris Trantham; to this
  union 3 children were born: William Murray, March 7, 1948; Vonita Kay, March 18,
  1949; Patricia Ann, April 28, 1950.
     Virginia Louise was married to Jack Edward Kasney on June 16, 1951; to this union 
  3 children were born, Jack Edward, Jan 16, 1953; John Preston, Oct. 2, 1959; Susan
  Louise, May 27, 1968.
     Elam Preston (Bill) married Virginia Ann Mullikin on Sept. 5, 1948.
