Scott Circle

My grandfather, Scott Circle, was the first child of J.R. and Medora Cutlip Circle.
He was born in Summerville, West Virginia, on October 26, 1876. Scott's family came
to Kansas in a covered wagon when Scott was five years old, settling for a short time
in Cowley County. J.R. Circle later moved his family to Barber County.
     There were five children in the family. Scott's brother Dan, was born in 1880;
Quince, the first child bornin Kansas was born in 1883. The only daughter, Villa, was
born in 1886; Ott in 1896, and John Fay (Shorty) was born in 1900. Shorty was only
two months older than my father, though he was his uncle.
When the Cherokee Strip ws opened in 1893, Scott was too young to file a claim,
but he did drive a supply wagon and enjoyed every minute of the Run. Scott married
Cora Sanders in 1899. Their first farm was in Oklahoma at what is now the junction
of Highway #8 and Highway #11. This land was sold and 160 acres purchased in Kansas
across the road from Ray Circle's farm. My father, John Alfred, the first child was
born on this farm in 1900. Two daughters, Blanche in1901, and Cora Belle in 1904,
  were born in Capron, Oklahoma.
Scott later purchased the farm 1 1/2 miles north of Hazelton, where the family
moved. Alfred and his sisters walked to school in Hazelton. Alfred married Mildred
Maddox in 1927. They rented and lived on the Eastman farm which Dad later purchased.
I was born in 1930. My mother lived only 10 days after my birth. I was then loved
and raised by my grandparents, Scott and Cora Circle. My grandmother died in 1948.
I continued to live with my grandfather until his death in 1970, at the age of 94.
My father remained a widower until 1950, when he married Evelyn Morrow of San Antonio,
  Texas. He died in 1976.
His sister,Blanche, married Harley Rice in 1925. They made their home in Wichita,
where their two daughters, Lousie and Elaine, were born. Belle married Jess Reynolds.
They had one girl, Gwendolyn, and two boys, Jack and Jimmy. Belle later married Fred
Worley and also lives in Wichita.
I have been married to Ruby Mitchell Rankin since 1971. I am farming my grandfather's
  and father's farms.
