Frank's roots were in Barber County.
The eldest son of George and Frances Cline, he was born near Kiowa in 1897 and
grew to manhood on his parents farm at Deerhead, Kansas. It was while working at
Bissantz' grocery in Sun City that he met Maude Archibald.
Maude, whose parents were Irish immigrants, was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts,
in 1894. While still a young girl, she moved with her mother and three younger brothers
to Geneseo, Kansas.
She attended Fort Hays Normal, graduating in 1925. At the time she met Frank she
was teaching English at Sun City High School. During that time she was also Barber
County Superintendent of Schools.
Maude and Frank were married in 1935.
Afte a few years on a farm in Watts, Arkansas, they moved to Geneseo. Maude
continued to teach until her retirement in 1959 at age 65.
After retirement, Maude and Frank kept busy with church work and civic affairs.
Frank died in 1969 at age 72. He had many friends who remember him with love.
He was a jolly, warm person who knew no strangers.
Maude continued to live alone in their home in Geneseo. She traveled extensively
over the United States and was planning a trip when she died suddenly on her 65th
birthday, March 2, 1979.
Maude left many friends and scores of former students who won't hesitate to say
she was the best teacher they ever had.
