Frank Herbert Duncan

Frank Herbert Duncan, my grandfather, was born in Iowa on November 1, 1887,
and moved as a small boy with his parents and family to a farm northeast of
  Sharon, Kansas.
Grandpa and his 5 brothers and 5 sisters grew up on the farm, helping with
the farmwork. His parents moved to Portland, Oregon, about 1907. Grandpa
stayed at Sharon and married Elva Rule, my beloved grandmother, October 23,
  1907.
Grandma was born the middle child of 4 boys and 5 girls to Henry L. and
Sarah (Sally) Rule on Jule 4, 1888, in Elkton, a small town near Humansville,
Missouri. The family moved from Missouri to Oktaha, Oklahoma, later to Kiowa,
Kansas, and then to Sharon when Grandma was about 8 years old.
Shortly following their wedding, Grandpa decided to take his new bride and
join his family in Portland, Oregon. They remained in Oregon only about 6
months before returning to Sharon in 1908.
Upon returning to Kansas, Grandpa worked in the hardware store in Sharon
for awhile before moving to Great Grandpa Henry Rule's farm southeast of
  Hazelton. Their first son Eugene Hilbert was born while in Sharon March 8, 1912;
Loren Frank was born January 29, 1921; and Sidney Allen, my father, November
16, 1926. They raised their family on the farm near Hazelton.
Eugene graduated from Hazelton High School and obtained his license as a
registered pharmacist. He served in the army in WWII, stationed at Cheyenne,
Wyoming, part of the time. After retiring from his lifetime profession as a
pharmacist in the early 1970's, he and his wife, Ermal Birdzell, whom he wed
on February 22, 1941, returned to barber County and purchased a farm east of
  Sharon where they now live.
Loren, after graduating from Hazelton High School and attending one semester
at Southwestern College in Winfield, moved to Wichita and worked as a florist.
He served as a Lieutenant in the Air Force in England and France in WWII. Loren
was killed in a car wreck on his way home from Wichita, January 2, 1949, and
  buried in the Sharon Cemetery.
Sidney, the youngest son, my father, attended school at Hazelton. He farmed
with Grandpa and was united in marriage to Dorothy Genevieve Williams on
  December 26, 1945. They had 4 daughters - Jeannie Marie, September 8, 1946;
Peggy Lou (me) January 7, 1948; Glenda Lea, November 23, 1949; and Bonnie
Christine, August 5, 1951. My parents were divorced on January 6, 1956.
Grandpa and Grandma lived on their farm near Hazelton until they purchased
a farm in eastern Harper County, near Bluff City, in the summer of 1954. Grandpa
passed away on October 10, 1957, and was laid to rest in the Sharon Cemetery.
Grandma returned to Barber County after an illness in 1974 and now resides
at the Kiowa Manor in Kiowa, Kansas. She will celebrate her 91st birthday
  on July 4.
