Carl C. Eckert


     Carl C. Eckert, son of Siegfried Carl and Hattie Eckert, was born November
  9, 1924, at their home in Kiowa. He attended school in Kiowa until he was
  drafted into the U.S. Navy, May of 1943. He served in the ACORN 17 attached
  to the 5th Amphibious until he was discharged in November of 1945, as an
  Acting Second Class Boatsman Mate.
     After returning to Kiowa he married Juanita Louise Garman on February 24, 
  1946. She was born August 31, 1928, in the home of her parents, Arnold Davis
  and Frances Marie Garman, south of Kiowa. She was raised in the Kiowa area
  and attended Kiowa Senior High. When Carl and Juanita's family was completed
  they had three sons.
     The eldest son, David Carl, was born June 27, 1948, at the Hardtner
  Achenbach Memorial Hospital. He is a graduate of Kiowa Senior High and
  Northwestern State University at Alva, OK. While attending college, he met
  his future wife, Brenda Jean Simpson, and was married August 31, 1968. She
  was born May 7, 1948, the daughter of Melvin and Dorothy Simpson. She was
  raised in Satanta, Kansas, and is also a graduate of NSU. David is currently
  employed as Officer Manager at Continental Motors in Wichita. Bernda is an
  elementary teacher at Sedgwick, where they also reside in a rural home. David
  and Brenda have two adopted children: Marcus Carl born November 16, 1971, and
  Angela Kaye born June 3, 1978, both born in Wichita.
     The second son, Lex Dean, was born August 19, 1951. He was the first baby
  born in the new Kiowa District Hospital prompting it's early opening. He is
  a graduate of Kiowa Senior High School and Dodge City Community College. While
  attending college he met his future wife, Leesa Darlene Harmon, and was
  married January 6, 1973. She was born December 11, 1952, the daughter of
  Winferd and Gladys Harmon. She was born and raised in Dodge City and is also
  a graduate of DCCC. Lex and his family live in a rural home in Kiowa, and
  he is self-employed as a custom harvestor with his father. He and his wife
  have one son, Nathan Lee, born December 6, 1978, in Kiowa.
     The third son born to Carl and Juanita is Max Wayne, born November 30, 1960,
  also in Kiowa. Max is a very special child to his family since he was a
  Rubella baby, born deaf and blind. Max has attended several specialized schools
  including The Colorado Institute for the Deaf and Blind in Colorado Springs
  and The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind in Talladega, Alabama. He is
  presently attending The Sheldon Education Center in Topeka.
     For many years Carl has been well known for his main occupation of painting
  and paper hanging, a skill taught him by his father as a child. In 1957 he
  entered the custom harvesting business following wheat, milo, and corn harvest
  at various times and places over the years.
