Ray Etheridge
Ray and Iona Etheridge with their sons, Steve and Warren, came to Barber
County in 1959, when Ray accepted the position of County Extension Agricultural
Agent and County Extension Director. During the past 20 years Ray has built
a very active Extension program, both in the agricultural field and the 4-H
department. He has coached several judging teams which have won national
awards, both in Livestock and Pasture and Range.
Steve and Warren attended the Medicine Lodge public schools. During their
high school years Steve was active in the High School Show Choir; Warren was
an outstanding athlete, setting several track records and winning selection
on state alstar teams in basketball and football during his senior year. Both
boys attended Kansas State University, where Warren graduated in 1978. Steve
is married to the former Venessa Nichols and lives at Sharon; he is employed
by Cities Service in Medicine Lodge. Warren teaches and coaches in the junior
high school at Kismet, Kansas.
Ray is a graduate of Missouri University and a World War II veteran, having
served with Headquarters VIII Corps in the European Theater. Before coming to
Barber County, Ray taught at Mansfield, Missouri; he became associated with
extension services in Kansas, when he accepted the office of Assistant
Agricultural Agen in Greenwood County, in 1954.
The family is active in the United Methodist Church and various community
activities.
