Captain James D. Fair
James D. and Diane Fair arrived in the Sharon Valley in the early 1880's from
Illinois.
Their married children followed them: Charles C., Julie (Mrs. T.H. "Tandy"
Trice), James R., Hyder H., and Hal D.
Charles married Nellie Weber and they moved northwest of Sharon. They had two
daughters: Ethel (Mrs. A. Rowe) and Carlie (Mrs. J. Lemon). After his wife died,
Charles married Cora Stockwell: their sons were J.D. and Charles.
Julie and Tandy Trice's children were Edna (Gibbs), Lora (Newsom), and J.H.
Trice. Julia was postmast at Sharon. T.H. Trice operated a dry goods store. One
of the memories about the store was that calico was sold for 3 cents a yard.
James R. Married Etta R. Hale. They lived northwest of Sharon also. They had
two daughtes, Blanche E. (Thompson) and Blondell V. (McKeever). James R. was
known for his ability to make money by loans to neighbors. He was commonly
referred to as "10% Jim". He later became a stockholder with brother Hyder and
T.H. Trice in the Sharon Valley State Bank.
Hyder married Rozie Moyer; they had two daughters, LaVon and Geraldine. He
also owned and operated a general store in Sharon.
Hal married Amy Chase; their two children are Waldron and Diane. Hal and his
father, Captain Fair, had a general store in Medicine Lodge.
After four generations of Fairs, this family name will end. Only living
descendants of the family residing in Barber County are Ethel Rowe's (daughter of
Charles), Julia's and J.R.'s.
