Frank Fishburn
The Fishburns, Glenn and Hazel, along with their two children, Marguerite
and Frank, ages 7 and 5 respectively, came to Medicine Lodge in the spring
of 1927. They moved here from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. They had
traded for a farm 2 miles south of town and 2 days later a cyclone destroyed
it completely. They will never forget the scene of destruction when they
drove down the lane. It was quite disheartening.
They all helped on the farm, ran a dairy and delivered milk, ran a small
truck hauling business and thyen bought the Medicine Lodge Sales Company
in 1945. They operated this until Glenn was killed in a car-train accident
in 1954.
Marguerite graduated from Nurse's Training in 1940, married Bob Barncord
of Emporia, and they are living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They have 2
children: Gary, age 37, and Linda, age 24.
Frank married Fern Renberger of La Crosse, Kansas, in 1942. He worked in
Wichita and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, but returned to college in 1945 and
graduated from KSU Veterinary College in 1949. He conducted a Veterinary
Practive on South Spring St. until 1966 when they moved to Manhattan.
Frank and Fern have 3 children: Arline, age 34, graduated from KSU,
married Allas Goble of Lake City and has a son, Lance, age 10. Dallas
graduated from School of Veterinary Medicine at KSU and is now an Equine
specialist on the staff of the Veterinary School, Knoxville, Tenn.
Anita, age 30, completed her high school in Manhattan and attended 3
years at KSU. She married Tom Klag of Milwaukee, Wisc. They have 2 children:
Chris, age 3 1/2 and Allison, age 1. Tom graduated from Marquette Dental
School. They spent 3 years in Germany with the Army but are now living in
Wichita. Tom recently completed advanced work in Peridontistry and has just
opened his office in Wichita.
Casey, age 23, received most of his schooling in Manhattan, graduated
from KSU in 1978 in Pre-Dentistry, and is now attending Washington University
School of Dentistry in St. Louis, Mo. He married Jan Nedived of Manhattan
in 1978. She has her degree in Interior Design and works in a St. Louis
furniture store.
Frank was on the staff at KSU Veterinary School (Equine Dept) for almost
2 years but resigned in order to open a Small Animal Clinic in Manhattan.
They have a prosperous business and are quite happy there, but will always
miss their many friends in Barber County.
