John Frank Fisher
John Frank Fisher was born Oct. 1, 1859 at Hillsdale, Kansas. He came to
Barber County in early boyhood, riding the range for various cattle ranches.
A few years later, he homesteaded a farm between Medicine Lodge and Sharon.
In the year 1887, he was married to Jane Jones, better known to her friends
as "Jennie." To this union, four sons were born: Alphius of Sharon, Edwin
of Kiowa (dec.), Fred of Sharon (dec.), and Lloyd of Attica.
Frank spent his entire life in farming and dealing in livestock, not
only in Kansas but in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
He was one of the early pioneers. Among his neighbors were "Sockless"
Jerry Simpson whose farm joined on the west, later owned by Vic Sleeper.
East of him was the J.R. Fair farm, Martin Landwehr, and Chas. Blackmore.
There was no community livestock sales in those days. J.F. Fisher was
one who bought cattle and other livestock from his neighbors and other
ranches. When he had a carload, he gathered them together and shipped by
train to Wichita or Kansas City. In those days there were stockyards at
Medicine Lodge, Pixley, and Sharon.
Jennie died in 1909, and J.F. January 9, 1948. Alf was the only one of
the four sons to have a family. His children are Eugenia McGuire of Sharon,
who married Homer McGuire; their son is Jerry, who had two sons.
The other daughter, Juanita married Bill Head; their children are Billy
Duane, who had two children, and Deanna Campbell, of McAlister, Oklahoma.
Juanita lives in Odessa, Texas.
