William James Gallaugher


     W.J., better known as "Bill," ws born in Elizabeth, Pa., and came to Barber
  County via the Oklahoma oil fields.
     He brought his wife, Francis, and four children to Barber County on Sept.
  6, 1936. Francis wanted to return to Oklahoma, but, being the day before
  school started, the children had to start school.
     Bill came to Barber County with an oil company, Carbon-Black. They drilled
  the first oil well in Barber County on the Swartz place one mile east and 1/2
  mile north of Medicine Lodge. They remained in Medicine Lodge, where Bill
  worked in the oil fields till his death in 1964.
     Bill enjoyed sports and played baseball in his younger days; also fishing
  was a great pastime.
     At the time the Gallaughers came to medicine Lodge, John was 10 years old,
  Deloris 8, Patricia4, and Jim 10 months. Joann was born on the old Swartz
  place in 1937; Pamela made a rather belated entry in 1948.
     John left school the last semester of his senior uear to join the U.S.
  Merchant Marines, where he served four years. He returned to Medicine Lodge
  and married the former Elinor Small, July 3, 1948.
     Deloris married Gerald Woodward July 2, 1960; to this union three children
  were born: Marty, Bill, and George.
     Patricia was married to Errol Parr before her death in 1964.
     Jim married Xenia Kunzman of Capron, Oklahoma, on Nov. 9, 1956. They have
  one son, J.J., and live in Medicine Lodge.
     Joann married Ronald Parks, April 17, 1959; three children were born to 
  this union: Kenneth, Ronald (Stony), and Julie. They reside in Ellinwood,
  Kansas.
     Pamela was married to Bill Cooper, September 29, 1972; they live in 
  Torrance, Calif. with their son, Blake.
