Arnold Davis Garman


     Arnold Davis Garman was born May 22, 1899, in Adair County, Kentucky, the
  son of Thomas H. and Lily Mae Flether Garman. He had one brother, Elom "Bill,"
  a former resident of Medicine Lodge, and two half sisters, Velma and Mabel.
     As a young man, Arnold came to this area following the harvest with his
  father and brother. On August 19, 1917, he married Frances Marie Dotterer,
  born March 19, 1901, the oldest of ten children of Daniel Nathan and Elizabeth
  Louise Kasterkee Dotterer, Driftwood, Oklahoma. They moved to Kiowa shortly
  after their marriage, where they raised their family of seven children.
     The oldest daughter, Leona Mae, married Stanley I. Riley of Wichta. They
  had one son, Larry D., and one granddaughter, Tracy Shawn. Leona passed away
  in 1940 of leukemia, and Larry was killed in an accident in 1963.
     Phyllis Maxcine, who served in the WAAC during WWII, married Claude L.
  Triplett, a farmer of Burden, who also served in the U.S. Air Force. They
  have two children: Douglas Brent, Leavenworth, and Brenda Delorse, Winfield.
  Douglas has a son Bryon Douglas.
     Arnold Junior served in the U.S. Marine Air Force in WWII and is a graduate
  of California State Polytechnic College. He married Laveta Whitfield, a former
  Isabel girl. They now reside in Clinton, Iowa, where he is a refrigeration
  engineer for Swift & Co. They had four children: David and his wife Nancy, in
  Jacksonville, Florida, where he is serving in the Navy Air Force as a jet
  pilot; Burce was killed in an accident in 1960; Gail and husband Dewayne
  DeSmett, Tracy, Minnesota, have a son Jamie; Jim is a cadet at Annapolis,
  Maryland.
     Richard Wayne served with the U.S. Marines in WWII. He married Lorena Bell
  Roberts of Hardtner. They have three sons: Terry Wayne, Jeffery Lane, and
  Rodney Lynn, all of Kiowa. They farm west of Hardtner and also custom harvest.
     Juanita Louise married Carl "C" Eckert of Kiowa just after he returned from
  the Navy after WWII. They have three sons: David and wife, Brenda, live in
  Sedgwick with their two adopted children, Marcus Carl and Angela Kaye. Lex and
  wife Leesa, Kiowa, have a son Nathan Lee. Max Wayne is attending a special
  school in Topeka. Carl and Lex are presently engaged in custom harvesting
  together.
     Delmar Dean graduated from Dodge City Community College. There he met his
  wife, Marilyn Graul. He also served  in the U.S. Marines in Korea. They have
  four children. Twin sons, Ron and Don, who help operate Ro-Ark Printing with
  their father in Rogers, Arkansas. Ron and wife, Sharon, have one son, Tyler.
  Don's wife is Mary. Tina and husband, Charles Leigan, live in Topeka. Finally,
  Tammie of Wichita.
     Alice Marie married a Hazelton boy, John Franklin Ricke who served in the
  U.S. Army and is a graduate of Northwestern State of Alva. They now live on
  their farm north of Hazelton. They have two daughters: Dianna Marie, Parsons, 
  and Cynthia Jo and husband, Danny Archuletta, from Hazelton. They live in
  Kiwoa with their son, Cory Dean.
     After 62 years of marriage and farming in the Kiowa area, Arnold and Francis
  are retired and still live on their farm near Kiowa.
