Charles Gehlen
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gehlen and family came to Barber County from St. Leo,
Kingman County, Kansas, July 26, 1951.
Charles and Helen's family were Josephine, Alma, Dolores, Arnold, Raphael,
Catherine, Virginia, and Alphons at the time they came to Sharon.
They moved to the Fred Ricke farm home 2 2/3 miles west of Sharon, Kansas.
Two children, Edward born 1953, and Elizabeth, born 1955, were added to the
family there.
Charles farmed and did some Pinkerton Guard service at National Gypsum
Company at Medicine Lodge.
The Gehlens are members of St. Boniface Church at Sharon, Kansas.
In October, 1975, they retired, purchased a home, and moved to 219 East
Kansas in Medicine Lodge.
The children grew up and attended the Sharon schools. Edward lives at
home. Josephine is a missionary to Nigeria where she has served for thirteen
years. Alma married Leon Weber, and Nashville, Kansas is their home. Dolores
lives at Belle Plaine with her husband, Kenneth Hudson. Arnold married Sharon
Maddox, and Raphael married Lurinda Chance; both couples live in Sharon.
Katherine and husband, Leonard Wooten, live in Wichita, and Virginia and Al
Petzel live in Augusta. Alphons and wife, the former Colleen Wisk, live in
Medicine Lodge. Elizabeth and husband, Bill Mosiman, make Newton their home.
