Cecil Gibson
Cecil Elvin Gibson and his wife, the former Capitolia Nidella Bromlow,
came to Barber County as newly weds in the spring of 1953. Both were born
in Major County, Oklahoma, and were raised with a farming background. Cecil
has eight brothers and sisters. Nidella has one sister, three living brothers,
and one brother who died.
Cecil came to Medicine Lodge when the board plant at National Gypsum was
new and has worked for the company twenty-six years. Nidella has worked as a
cook at the Gyp Hills Cafe for some time, and in the past, developed pictures
for a photographer. Her main work has been raising a family. There were four
children: Teresa; Elvin Doyle, who died when four days old with hepatitis;
Kevin Lyle; and Joe David. Teresa Jean, the oldest and only girl of the family,
was born January 6, 1955. She attended school all her school years here and
graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in May of 1973. She married Walter
Williams in March of 1974. They have a baby boy, Shelby Walter, born January
15, 1978. Teresa and Walter live in Ogden, Utah, where she is employed with
the IRS.
The Gibsons have two sons, Kevin and Joe. Kevin was born February 2, 1959,
with 102 fever and hepatitis. Whe he was five or six, he had rheumatic fever,
and on March 17, 1974, he accidentally shot himself with a .22 rifle; but he
survived all this and in 1977 graduated from Medicine Lodge High School. He
attended college at Fort Hays State University. He now lives and is employed
in Wichita, Kansas.
Joe David is 17 and attends Medicine Lodge High School, where he plays
football. This summer he is tarping trailers for Magill Truck Lines who haul
wall board from Gold Bond - National Gypsum.
Cecil's hobby is hunting; he has almost a hundred trophies. Joe enjoys
hunting with his dad.
While the boys were in high school, Nedella began courses at Pratt Community
Junior College and hopes to continue her education.
Both Cecil and Nidella do as much camping with their family as possible.
Much of their travel has been to Utah, family trips to Colorado, Missouri,
Arkansas, and Oklahoma. The most memorable one was the trip to Utah for the
birth of their first grandchild.
Cecil and Nidella enjoy living on their acreage east of Medicine Lodge.
Teresa Jean and Walter Brown Williams' second child, Shane Laval Williams,
was born September 17, 1979, weighing in at 8 pounds 3 ounces and was 20 inches
long.
On June 28, 1979, Kevin Lyle Gibson Leslie was born, weighing 7 pounds 8 1/2
ounces, and 19 1/2 inches long. He is the son of Kevin Lyle and Connie Lenelle
Leslie.
