William P. Gibson
William Perez Gibson's immigrant ancestor was Thomas Gibson, who came to
America from Ireland in the late 1700s. William was born 22 February 1856
in Linn County, Missouri. He was married to Olive Minta Nickell, born 7
January 1857. They married 25 February 1877 in Missouri. Her immigrant
ancestor was John Nickell from Ireland, who came to America before the
Revolutionary War.
They moved to Kansas by train in 1896 and lived on the Winn Ranch on
Elm Creek north and east of Medicine Lodge. They raised fine Hereford
cattle and farmed. During the severe blizzard of 1897, they lost most of
their cattle. In ealry 1900 the family moved to a ranch and farm west of
Isabel.
The Gibsons had nine children. Eight children were born in Missouri.
They were Hattie May, born 17 January 1878, m. 19 February 1902, Wilson
E. Schrock; Anna Lillian, born 25 July 1879, m. Olin V. Walker; Ethel
Lela, born 22 December 1880, m. 3 March 1901, Howard Stone; Goldie America,
born 11 April 1885, m. Ernest L. Huitt; Pearl S., born 1 Sept. 1886, m.
Scott E. Levens; Earl O., m Rachel Leigh; Frances, born 1888; Leslie,
born 22 April 1892, m. 9 December 1915, Tracie M. Kumberg, born 3 August
1892. William Raymond, born 22 March 1898 in Barber County died at an
early age. Frances died of typhoid in 1906.
William Perez died in 1917, and Olive M. died in 1920. They are both
buried in the Medicine Lodge Cemetery.
Descendants living in the area are granddaughters, Marguerite (Stone)
Schnelle, Catherine O. (Stone) Newsom of Medicine Lodge; Joy Levens of
Sawyer; LaVeda (Huitt) Carpenter of Pratt, and grandson Robert Gibson of
Isabel.
