Jack E. Greenwood
Jack Eldred Greenwood came to live in Medicine Lodge in 1953. He was born
at Steele City, Nebraska, February 5th, 1926, to Chester Murial Greenwood and
Mildred Martha Rassmussen Greenwood. He has a younger brother, Bill, of Sun
City, Arizona.
Jack graduated from Argentine High School in Kansas City, Kansas, in 1945.
He then served in the United States Army for two years. He graduated from the
University of Kansas in 1952, where he was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity.
While at the University he was an outstanding trackman, having won many golds
and set records in the hurdles. He is now participating in Masters Track and
Field, and over the last eight years has been voted outstanding United State
athlete over 40 years of age by the AAU. Jack was the first person to receive
this award, which was presented to him in 1976. He has also been voted
outstanding world athlete over 40 years of age. The family has traveled
throughout Europe, Cnanad, Austrailia, New Zealand, the Fiji Islands, and the
United States with teh Masters Track program.
Jack is president and manager of the Barber County Savings and Loan Association
in Medicine Lodge. For many years he was volunteer director of the summer
baseball program. He served on the City Council and the School Bard. Jack is
active in the Methodist Church, Lions Club, American Legion, and is Director
of the Indian Peace Treaty Pageant. He was awarded the first "Outstanding
Citizen" award in 1974, this award was given by the Medicine Lodge Chamber of
Commerce.
Nancy Alice MacGregor Greeenwood was born April 5, 1931, to Riley William
MacGregor and Alice Bell Martin MacGregor. Nancy graduated from Medicine Lodge
High School in 1949 and the University of Kansas in 1953 where she was a member
of Delta Gamma Sorority. She and Jack were married August 7, 1953, in the
First Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge.
For several years Nancy taught art in the public schools. She has also
worked as a legal secretary and secretary at The Barber County Savings and Loan
Association.
Nancy has been active in the community, having been president of the Garden
Club, a member of DAR, Legion Auxiliary, the Recreation Council, and Youth
Leader of the Methodist Church.
Riley MacGregor Greenwood, son of Jack and Nancy, was born on December 17,
1958, at Medicine Lodge, and graduated from Medicine Lodge High School in 1977.
He was selected to one of the All State Football Teams and won first place in
the State High Hurdles his senior year. This is the same High Hurdle race his
father had won in 1945. Riley will be a 1979 graduated of Hutchinson Community
Junior College where he participated in football and track. He will continue
his education at the University of Kansas.
Jack Martin "Marty" Greenwood, son of Jack and Nancy, was born June 12, 1963,
in Medicine Lodge and will be a 1981 graduate of Medicine Lodge High School. He
is actively involved in High School in art, athletics, dramatics, and public
speaking.
