Francis R. Hall
Francis Ruben Hall was born January 31, 1917, at Sharon, Kansas, one
of eight children of Clint and Grace Hall. His mother, Grace Romig, was
born in Medicine Lodge, Kansas in 1889, a daughter of Francis Romig, an
early day blacksmith.
Francis attended schools in rural Barber County, Sharon, and Attica
and worked for ranchers Rink McCullough, Gordy Smith, Ves Cook, and Tom
Warwick. While employed in that area, he met Jessie Donovan who taught
Canema School.
Jessie Editha Donovan was born November 10, 1915, at Medicine Lodge
to Aubra and Minnie Donovan. She attended all grades and graduated from
Medicine Lodge High School in 1933. After obtaining a teacher's certif-
icate from college at Alva, Oklahoma, and Hays, Kansas, she taught
seven years in rural Barber County schools.
Francis Hall enlisted in the U.S. Air Force August 7, 1941. He grad-
uated from Air Force mechanics school at Chanute Field and was based in
Columbia, South Caroline, where he and Jessie Donovan married May 18,
1942. He remained in the states for training and maneuvers until January,
1944. During that period, their daughter, Gaylia Denise Hall, was born
at Harper, Kansas, June 20, 1943. He was shipped to France and England
for participation in World War ii with the 344th Bomb Group and spent 21
months there.
At war's end he returned to Kansas, and they moved to Coffeyville,
Kansas, where he obtained an A&E Aircraft Maintenance License from the
FAA. They moved to Burbank, California, and worked a short time for the
Flying Tiger Airline before reentering the U.S. Air Force to complete a
twenty year career there. While stationed at Fairfield Suisun, Dennis
Donovan Hall, was born at Presidio, San Franciso, California, March 9,
1949. Other bases where they lived were McCord, Tacoma, Washington; Kelly,
San Antonio, Texas; and Davis-Monthan, Tucson, Arizona. He retired from
the Air Force at his last base, Carswell, Fort Worth, Texas, in June, 1963.
He was employed at several airports in the Fort Worth area before
joining Central Airlines there. A merger with Frontier Airlines moved
personnel to Denver, Colorado. In 1971 he was transferred to Phoenix,
Arizona. They purchased a home in Mesa, Arizona, and plan to retire there.
Jessie kept busy maintaining a home for and moving the family to the
many localities her husband's work required. She continued her affiliation
with the Methodist Church, taught Sunday School, den mothered Cub Scout
and Girl Schout groups. Her hobby is writing character sketches, vignettes,
and short stories.
Gaylia Hall has an advertising agency in Fort Worth, Texas, whose major
client is a manufacturer of western wear; others include a bank, restaurant,
and freelance work. Both she and Dennis Hall attended schools in Arizona
and Texas and graduated from L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas. She
completed a degree from the University of Texas at Arlington in commercial
art. Dennis enlisted in the Air Force, served one year in Viet Nam at
Danang, and completed a four year enlistment with discharge as Staff
Sergeant. He attended Cochise College, Douglas, Arizona, where he received
an A&P mechanics license, and Arizona State University at Tempe, where he
graduated with a business administration degree. He is employed in Iran
by Bell Helicopter.
