John Fredrick Hamilton

John began life in Barber County on a farm between Isabel and Nashville on March
27, 1927. He was a big robust twelve pound baby boy, which was accepted with much
pride and joy by his parents, Fred and Mary R. Hamilton; for John already had three
sisters, and they were proud to have a boy in the family, at last. Little did any
of them know at the time that he would have the challenge of being and "only boy"
  living amoung eight sisters.
From the beginning, John's father left little doubt in John's mind just what was
expected of him. He was expected to grow-up to be of good character, be his own man,
and turn out to be a respectable citizen of the community. The two sermons most often
heard by John from the time he was old enough to know their meaning were: Number one
"You know right from wrong, and if you ever get into trouble with the law, it'll be
you for it." and number two: "You will have me to deal with, if I ever hear tell of
you not conducting yourself with decency around Mommie and the girls. You must always
treat them with respect." John did not disappoint his father, that is exactly the
way it was. John survived the "only boy" challenge magnificently. He grew up to be
loved and greatly respected by his family and by all those who have ever really
known him. His quick-tempered, rough, tough, stand on your own two feet and conquer
all exterior always completely contrasted the side of his nature that was tender and
gentle and generous to a fault. If ever anyone had a heart of gold, it is John.
John served in the Maritime Service and returned home at age seventeen. upon
returning home, he met Hazel Lorene Moore, who was born in Beaver County, Oklahoma
on October 10, 1927, and who had come to Medicine Lodge from Laverne, Oklahoma. They
were married on May 7, 1945, when John had just turned eighteen and Hazel was just
  seventeen years old.
John later served in the United States Army and was given an honorable discharge
  from the service.
John and Hazel became parents to three children: John Fredrick (Feller) who was
born on December 17, 1947; Helen Lee who was born on January 3, 1949; and Terry Lynn
who was born on September 27, 1951.
The family lost Helen Lee as a result of a vehicle accident in 1967. Feller
married Deborah Ann Clyborn August 7, 1971. They have a son, Chad Tyson, who was born
in 1974. They live in Del City, Oklahoma. Feller will graduate from dental school in
June, 1979. Terry married Jerald Wayne Stinson August 20, 1971. They have a daughter,
Jennifer Lynn, who was born in 1975. They live in Hooker, Oklahoma. John and Hazel
make their home in Laverne, Oklahoma. Each remembers Medicine Lodge and remembers that
it is the place that was once called home.
