Thomas Weldon Hicklin, Sr., D.O.


       Dr. Thomas W. Hicklin, Sr., began his practice in Medicine Lodge in
     October, 1978, fulfilling his plan to provide primary medical and
     surgical care for a rural area. Dr. Hicklin chose Medicine Lodge because
     it is economically sound, family oriented, deeply rooted  in history,
     and a communitiy that works together. He enjoys the scenic countryside
     that has been an inspiration to many artists.
       Thomas Weldon Hicklin, Sr., was born i st. Paul Hospital, Dallas, Texas,
     on January 6, 1946. After graduation from high school in Colorado City,
     Texas, he returned to Dallas, where he received a degree in Xray from
     Baylor University. He then attended East Texas State University, receiving
     the B.S. Degree in Biology and Chemistry. After attending Med Tech School
     at Hendrix Memorial in Abilene, Texas, Tom Hicklin entered Kansas City
     College of Osteopathic Medicine where he received his Doctor of Osteopathy
     in 1976. He has also done post graduate work in Kansas City. He practiced
     for 15 months in Smith Center, Kansas, before coming to Medicine Lodge.
       On April 5, 1971, Tom Hicklin was married to Charlotte Cooper, who was
     born in East Texas on March 20, 1952.
       Their daughter, Heather, was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on March 21,
     1974. Heather modeled from age 18 months through four years. Her picture
     appeared in Workbasket Magazine, on billboards for KUDL Radio station, in
     the Western Auto Stores catalogue; and she appeared on television in Kansas
     City to advertise the modeling school. Heather spent one year in the
     Montessori School in Kansas City in 1977.
       Their son, Thomas Weldon, Jr., who was born in Kansas City on January 21,
     1977, appeared in educational films for children.
       And on March 7, 1979, Dr. Hicklin enjoyed another advantage of living in
     a small town like Medicine Lodge. He was able to attend to the delivery of
     their third child, James Weldon II, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital.
