Dallas Harvey Hull
Dallas was born and raised on the family farm southwest of Medicine Lodge, the
third child of Raymond and Thelma Hull. He attended a rural school and high school
in Medicine Lodge. He married Evelyn Widney in 1959. Evelyn is the daughter of
Lloyd and Helen Widney. Evelyn attended school in Oklahoma until moving to Medicine
Lodge with her family. She attended Medicine Lodge High School. Dallas and Evelyn
have 4 children; Dallas Jr. (Butch) born March 5, 1960; Terry Duane, Aug. 1, 1961;
Rebecca Ann (Becky), Aug. 14, 1962; and David Lee, Sept. 25, 1966.
Dallas and Evelyn have farmed the home place all but three years of their married
life. They moved to Hutchinson in 1964, where Dallas worked for Cessna. They also
lived in Arlington and Alden for a short time. No one could get the country out of
that boy, so back to the farm they went in 1967. In 1969 they started following
the wheat harvest, doing custom harvesting. Dallas Jr. and Terry started running
combines when they were 10 and 11 yeras old. It was amusing to watch the reaction
of the people when they saw who was going to be running the combines to cut their
wheat. After the first day of operation, their fear went away for they found the
boys to be quite efficient. Dad was in constant touch with the 2-way radios.
The family had many happy memories to outweigh the hardships of long harvest
hours. They have many beautiful friends from Elmer, Oklahoma to Munich, N.D.
Everyone looks forward to a 2-day stop at Hot Springs, S. Dak., where they can
swim at Evans Plunge, take a trip to Mr. Rushmore each year, and attend the
greyhound races at Rapid City, S. Dak.
Greyhounds are a great love of Dallas'. He enjoys hunting coyotes with them
all winter. Since Dallas and Evelyn have bought the land from Raymond and Thelma,
he has also spent much time and effort in making improvements in the buildings
and corrals and improving the cow-calf herd.
Evelyn enjoys sewing and club groups when she has time. Dallas Jr. graduated
from Medicine Lodge High School. The other children are still in school in Medicine
Lodge.
