John Hunt


        John W. Hunt and Clara Bell Wingfield Hunt came to Lake City, Kansas,
     in the summer of 1915. John was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1866. After his
     mother's death, as a young boy, he came to Oklahoma Indian Territory with
     his father, brother, George, and half brother, Jess.
        Clara Bell Winfgield was born in 1876 in Butler County, Missouri. Her
     father, James Wingield, was a Methodist minister. Her mother was Mary
     Margaret Parker Wingfield. John and Clara were married at Vinita, Oklahoma.
     There were 10 children, four died in infancy. Those living are Ethel L.,
     Inez M., Lawrence E., Myrtle E., Bernadean Faye, and John Aaron.
        John Hunt, his son, Lawrence and a nephew, Jess, came to Kansas by
     covered wagon; Mrs. Hunt and daughters came by train. Aaron, the youngest,
     was born in Kansas in 1917. John came because of ill health, and he died
     in 1921. Clara Hunt loved the friendly people in Lake City, but she moved
     to Medicine Lodge to send Bernadean and Aaron to high school.
        Clara had to work, and work was scarce, but as an answer to prayer, she
     found the home of Henry Howard's family in need of a housekeeper after his
     wife's death. She helped care for his children and lived them dearly, and 
     they were so good to her. Henry later married Evelyn Pearce.
        The oldest daughter, Ethel, married Walter S. Nurse, son of Fred and
     Hannah Nurse, Medicine Lodge. Their four children are Marvin M., Jack David,
     Betty Jane, and Carol Sue.
        Inez M. Hunt married Edgar (Pete) Martin (d. 1969), son of Nute and
     Elizabeth Martin. Pete and Inez have one daughter, Maxine Louise Small.
        Lawrence E. Hunt married Goldie Meighers from Oklahoma. Their son is
     William (Bill) Hunt. Myrtle E. and Luther Stafford married and had one son,
     James Patrick, who is deceased. Myrtle later married Jeptha Tyler, Mansfield,
     Arkansas.
        Bernadean Faye married John Walker of Sawyer, their daughter is Jon Karen.
     She later married Woodrow Ely of Medicine Lodge. They have three children,
     Ronald, Sharon, and Sandra and live in California.
        John Aaron and Regenia McDaniel of Attica, Kansas, married and have four
     children; Cecil Jean, John Aaron, Jr., Rodrick Lynn, and Deanna Kay. They
     live in Arkansas City.
        Clara Bell Hunt died in 1958, her happiness and good humor leave many
     pleasant memories.
