Adolph Hybsha
John Hybsha was born in Velky Ujesd, Bohemia, September 29, 1834. He
and his wife, Elizabeth Lunak Hybsha, immigrated to America in 1857. To
this union were born three sons: Joseph, born January 6, 1858; Adolph
L. Hybsha, born February 22, 1860 in Kewaunee county, Wisconsin; and
John, born May 20, 1869. The family came to Kansas in 1878 and located
in Harper County. John erected on of the first business houses in Bluff
City when the city was founded. He died at Bluff City, March 26, 1914.
His wife died at Bluff City July 6, 1887.
Adolph, the subject of htis sketch, received his education in public
schools of Dodge county, Wisconsin, and came to Kansas with his parents
in 1878, locating near what is now Bluff City. Here he engaged in farming
and stock raising and prospered. By buying additional land from time to
time, he soon became one of the large land owners of Harper county. On
September 5, 1882, Adolph married Anna Legeda who was born February 5,
1863, in Bohemia, and immigrated from Bohemia in 1874 with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. John Lebeda. To Adolph and Anna were born four children:
Emily, born May 20, 1884; JOhn, born August 20, 1885; Mary, born February
25, 18889; and Stella, born June 1, 1899.
In 1904 Adolph retired from active farm life and engaged in general
mercantile businesses in Bluff City, under the name of A.L. Hybsha & Sons.
He remained successfully engaged in this business until 1909, when he
bought controlling interest in the State Bank of Bluff City, where he was
shortly elected president. In 1921 Adolph and Anna Hybsha moved to Barber
County where once again they turned to ranch and farm life, where they
lived the remainder of their lives. Anna passed away July 24, 1937, and
Adolph passed away November 20, 1950.
