John George Kaiser
John George Kaiser (3-22-1888) born in Cooper Co., Missouri, grew up near
Bunceton, Missouri. At an early age to earn better than the $10.00 per month
there, he went to the Dalhart, Texas area where the going wage was $30.00
per month. He worked on the famous XIT Ranch.
In 1908, on his way home to Missouri to visit, he came through Kansas to
visit his mother's brothers, William and Henry Knorp, around Hazelton. He met
Carrie Lena Burleson (7-20-1892 to 1974) who was working for the William
Knorp family. She was born in Polk Co., Bolivar, Missouri. She came to Kansas
July 4, 1908, to be withy her mother's brother, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Riley
Hutchinson.
John and Carrie Kaiser were married May 20, 1911 in Waynoka, Oklahoma.
They went to Dalhart, Texas, to make their home. Four children were born
there: Mrs. Roy (Wilma) Lewis (8-27-1912) of Kiowa; John Burleson (1-2-1915)
of Augusta, KS., Mrs. James (Doris) Johnson (11-14-1916) of Augusta, KS.;
Harvey Eugene (9-3-1919) lived 7 days and is buried at Dalhart, Texas.
In 1924 they moved to Kiowa by train, brought one box car with furniture,
some farm machinery, and 2 saddle horses, and another stock car of cattle.
They lived close to Kiowa until 1926 when they moved to a Blackstock Farm
one mile east of Hardtner and 1/2 mile north. Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Miller
(1-4-1927) of Kiowa was born there.
John and Carrie enjoyed 8 grandchildren; Roye Ann Lewis Thilsted, John
Lewis, Jean Kaiser, June Kaiser Pressnell, Rebecca Johnson, Christine Johnson
Ayre, Greg Miller, Shirley Miller Christensen. Great grandchildren include
Joye Platt, Andrea Lewis, Jennifer and Stephanie Pressnell, Jeremy Ayre and
Renee Christensen.
Mr. Kaiser can remember all the phases of farming from the horses to our
present methods. During the depression years when wheat was 25 cents a bushel.
John also measured wheat allotment ground for the Barber Co. ASC Office for
many years. They bought their farm from the Blackstock estate and lived there
until 1969 when they moved to their home in Kiowa. After 63 years of marriage,
Mrs. Kaiser passed away in 1974, and Mr. Kaiser still lives alone.
